The Rockets waived guard Kelenna Azubuike on Tuesday, reducing their roster
to 17 players heading into their final two preseason games.

Azubuike, a 6-5 guard, averaged 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in two preseason
appearance. Azubuike averaged 10 points and 3.7 rebounds in 97 career games
at Kentucky.

"It's a part of the job that stinks: calling somebody in there and telling
them your dream is being put on hold for right now with our team," Rockets
coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "But I think from Kelenna's standpoint, if you
look at his preseason line — 26 minutes, 1-for-7 — but then look at his
stats from our scrimmages, his stats were overwhelmingly positive.

"I don't have any doubts that he can play in the NBA."

The Rockets must still waive two more players with every remaining player on
the roster having a contract that's at least partially guaranteed.
