which won the Mexican Pacific League title and finished
second to the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series.
‧ Personal: Made only four appearances in 2000 and missed the entire 2001 and
2002 seasons because of shoulder surgeries . . . Born in the
Bronx, N.Y., but his family moved to Phoenix before his junior

York Mets as a second-round draft pick in June 1991.

"My mom has always been there for me, no matter what. The last
three years - when doctors were telling me I'd never play again,
that I was going to have to face reality and retire - my mom was
there, believing in me."
