of the franchise record set by Pedro Astacio . . . On
Aug. 23, 2001, against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium,
he became the only pitcher in history to hit a home run
and pitch a shutout in his big-league debut . . . Chosen
the National League Rookie of the Year in 2002 . . . Has
compiled a 17-6 record at Coors Field.
‧ Personal: Jennings and his wife, Kelly, have two children. The family lives
in Rockwell, Texas, in the off-season . . . His father, Jim,
played baseball at the University of Texas and in the Texas
Rangers minor league system . . . His grandfather, James, was a
longtime public address announcer for the Dallas Cowboys and still
serves as the voice of the Mesquite Championship Rodeo.
‧ Who had the biggest impact on your career?
"Has to be the pitching coach I have had at every professional
level - Bobby McClure, Bryn Smith, Jimmy Wright, Marcel
Lachemann and Bob Apodaca. They've each added to my knowledge.
I never learned this stuff in high school and college."
