during a 12-year pro career that has included time in
the Seattle, Boston, Milwaukee and Baltimore
organizations . . . His previous big-league appearance
was May 26, 1999, with the Red Sox . . . Harikkala has
spent all or part of the past nine years at the Class
AAA level . . . Named Seattle -minor league pitcher of
the year in 1994 when he went 16-4 with a 2.34
earned-run average between Class A and Class AA.
‧ Personal: Harikkala and his wife, Jill, have a daughter and live in Lake
Worth, Fla. . . . Originally signed by Seattle as a 34th-round
draft choice in June 1992.
‧ Who had the biggest impact on your career?
"I've never really looked up to anybody in baseball. There are
so many people who do a good job and have offered something.
Obviously, my parents were a major impact. They always worked
hard and prepared us for growing up and dealing with life."
