             Dec. 2.

           base.

‧ Career highlights: Was selected 2002 Player of the Year in the Class AA
                      Southern League and was the 2003 Rookie of the Year in
                      the Class AAA International League . . . Has 323
                      strikeouts in 3,646 professional plate appearances . . .
                      Finished his ninth season in the minor leagues before
                      making his big- league debut with the White Sox in
                      September, going 4-for-12 with three doubles.

‧ Personal: Signed by Houston as a 19th-round draft choice from Antioch
             (Calif.) High School in June 1995 . . . Went from Houston to the
             White Sox in the minor league portion of the winter draft in
             December 2001.

‧ Who had the biggest impact on your career?
             "I'd have to say my father. When I was young, he bought a
              batting cage and put it in our backyard. Without all the hard
              work he helped me do, I wouldn't be here right now."
