base, outfield and catcher . . . Led the Northwest League
with 66 RBI for Spokane (Wash.) in 1996 . . . Spent the
bulk of the past five years at the Class AAA level.
‧ Personal: Originally signed by Kansas City as a 22nd-round draft choice in
1996 out of the University of Arkansas . . . Native of Kansas
City, Mo., who grew up in Olathe, Kan. . . . Played for Culiacan
in the Mexican Pacific League this off-season.
‧ Who had the biggest impact on your career?
"My brother Kirk. He was always better than me. He is a year and
a half older. We were also playing together. We'd play catch,
we'd hit. He was always faster and stronger. He gave me an early
incentive to work hard and make myself better."
