SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP)—Former All-Star third baseman Kevin Seitzer is returning
to the Kansas City Royals as their hitting coach.
Seitzer replaces Mike Barnett, who was fired after last season when the Royals
ranked near the bottom of the American League in on-base percentage and runs
scored.
“You're focused on getting better and not dwelling on the past,”Seitzer said.
“I will be really disappointed in myself if the numbers don't get a lot
better.”
Seitzer was an All-Star as a rookie for the Royals in 1987. The career .295
hitter was the Arizona Diamondbacks’ hitting coach in 2007 before getting
fired midseason.
The Royals open a volunteer mini-camp Saturday before spring training.
