http://0rz.tw/ymGMY Giants sign versatile veteran Hall By Evan Drellich / MLB.com | 06/11/11 10:28 AM ET The veteran Giants have brought in another veteran, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. San Francisco has reportedly signed versatile 31-year-old Bill Hall in the wake of an injury to their starting second baseman, Freddy Sanchez. Hall, who hit .224 with a .272 on-base percentage this season in 46 games this season, was released by the Astros on June 4. The Giants lost Sanchez to a dislocated shoulder on Friday night, and how long he'll be out won't be known until after an MRI on Saturday. With Houston, Hall's days were clearly numbered after he lost his starting second-base job to Jeff Keppinger and had only four at-bats since his most recent start on May 25. Hall declined comment while packing his bags when the team was in San Diego on June 3. The Giants will pay less than $300,000 of the remaining portion of Hall's $3 million salary, while Houston remains responsible for the rest. San Francisco's need for Hall -- who's done everything but play first base or catch in his career -- he's even pitched -- has been exacerbated by injuries to third baseman Pablo Sandoval (fractured right hand) and utility infielder Mike Fontenot (left groin strain) this season. It was previously reported that Hall had been drawing interested from the Orioles and Nationals. Evan Drellich is a reporter for MLB.com. Follow him on Twitter @EvanDrellich.
