http://tinyurl.com/58mmky Cilic, Gulbis New Young Guns Out of Eastern Europe Wednesday, August 27, 2008 By Matt Cronin They come from tennis-mad Eastern Europe — no surprise there. They are both lanky and own huge serves and fiery ground strokes. They can close at the net and are only 19 years old. Meet the next wave of tall, powerful and capable fireballers, Latvia's Ernests Gulbis and Croatia's Marin Cilic. On Thursday, Cilic took a marathon 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victory over Julian Benneteau out on the old show Court 4, while Gulbis bested 2002 Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson 7-5, 6-1, 7-6(3) on Wednesday. 這段簡單是說兩位來自東歐的新星19歲小將,拉脫維亞的Gulbis跟克羅埃西亞的Cilic Cilic, who won his first career title at New Haven last week, will face American Robby Ginepri, while Gulbis will play Andy Roddick. Cilic hails from a country that has produced a slew of fine players, among them Goran Ivanisevic, Mario Ancic, Ivo Karlovic and Ivan Ljubicic. He's been touted as a possible heir to the Croatian throne, a lofty one, considering that Ivanisevic was a Wimbledon champion, Ljubicic was a top-5 player, and Ancic is a former Grand Slam semifinalist who once cracked the top 10. Cilic有望繼承克國網壇 這段有點辛酸〒△〒 "I'm coming up as a youngster, coming from a new generation and joining them in a very good way," Cilic said. "I jumped very high in the rankings, I think that's going to help for our Davis Cup team and also for, I believe, younger ones that they can work more when they practice and play tournaments. They will have us as their idols, and that's really going to be big if I continue to play like this and, of course, if Mario is going to be at the top.” Cilic自己的說法 Germany's Bob Brett, who once coached Ivanisevic as well as Boris Becker, tutors Cilic. Brett is known as a stern tactician with a sound mind who knows how to steer his players through the rough and tumble jungle of the tour. 原來他的教練那麼有來頭 之前都沒查資料(汗) “Goran was finishing his career, and he was practicing with me a lot when I was 14, 15, and he put me together with Brett and that helped me the most," said Cilic, who downed Roddick in Toronto. "From Bob, I learned a lot of things, and he gave me a lot of influence and helped me a lot." 高人指導就是不一樣 Last year at this time, the still raw Cilic lost in the first round of the US Open qualifying. Now, seeded No. 30, he's grown physically and mentally and appears ready to make a charge. "I think I'm going to get much stronger physically as I stop growing (upwards) and now I can grow wider," said Cilic, who gulps down steaks to add to his thin frame. "I think that's going to help a lot. As you become stronger your shots become more consistent and your serve gets better. So I think that's going to be a big improvement in the next few years." 還在長啊~ 要變壯一點 現在有點單薄 像竹竿XDD Gulbis hails from tiny Latvia, which does not have a big tennis tradition. He's from a wealthy family, so was able to hire decent coaches and travel when he needed to. But he doesn't act like a spoiled rich kid and has largely kept his nose to the grindstone. 背景介紹 有錢比較好! Gulbis still needs to work on his point construction, but can dictate off the ground and has a two-handed backhand with more than a little stick on it. His problem has been his consistency. But given his athletic stock (his father is a former basketball player, and his grandfather played on the former Soviet Union national basketball team) and his willingness to keep improving, the sky could be the limit. “I really like to play the Grand Slams because I'm extra motivated for them, ” he said. “I've been here a week preparing in New York. I've been practicing well and when I came on court today I had to adjust something, but I feel I can get better.” 那我們就拭目以待吧! When Gulbis faces Roddick, it will be a whole different level than facing Benneteau, who has nowhere near the American's credentials. Roddick may not have had a great summer, but he's put up big results before in New York and seems to be flourishing under the advice of U.S. Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe. Gulbis, who reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros and upset James Blake at Cincinnati, wants to show that he really belongs. 要對AR真的要很小心 今天打的很好 “Every match is special in a Grand Slam,” he said. “I go on court with the same attitude, but when you play on center court its more pressure. But as I play more and more on these courts, I adjust. It's different than a year ago when I came on center court and I was really scared. If I play my game I can be trouble for the top-10 players. My ranking now is around 40 in the game, but that's not my place. There are some guys who play the top guys but are scared to win. I'm trying not to be like that.” 倒數第二句是指誰啊XD -- ╭══╗╔══╮ ╔══╮╭══╮ ╭╮╭╮ ╚╗╔╯╰╗╔╝ ║ ═ ║║╭═╯ ║╰╯║ "Beauty will save the World." ║║ ║║ ║╔═╯╰══╮ ╰╮╭╯ ( 美は世界を救うでしょう ) ║║ ╭╝╚╗ ║║ ╭═╯║ ║║ ╚╯ ╚══╯ ╰╝ ╰══╯ ╚╝ ─ Dostoevsky, The Idiot ─ http://bvisgood.pixnet.net/blog/ Tipsy my love! ψwop875 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.171.166.249
