Inter Milan want to sign Jermaine Pennant to involve him in a complicated
deal for Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta.
Barca are expected to send Mendieta back to Lazio at the end of the season
after deciding not to take up his purchase option.
The Rome club has no room in its budget for the Spanish international and
are still keen to sell him on.
Inter know Lazio want Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant, but their Serie A
rivals cannot afford his asking price.
The Milan giants are willing to buy Pennant, currently on-loan with Watford,
and then send him to Lazio in a cash-plus-player swap for Mendieta at the
end of this season.

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti is in talks with Lazio over midfielder
Gaizka Mendieta.
The Spanish international is currently on-loan with Barcelona, but is
unlikely to be kept on by the Catalans beyond the end of the season.
Lazio have lowered their asking price for Mendieta from ￡21 million to ￡16
million, but that is still too rich for Moratti.
The Inter supremo isn't willing to do business for anything more than ￡12
million, despite facing pressure from trainer Hector Cuper, who is desperate
to add the former Valencia ace to his midfield next season.
