Problems Resurface
The situation with Lazio never seems to get better, or so it seems. After
enduring a disastrous season in 2009-10 in which the Rome-based side just
about managed to stay afloat in the Italian top flight, this season under Edy
Reja the former Italian champions were expected to do something great but to
no avail.
Lazio went down 2-0 to Sampdoria in Genoa in their opening game of the season
and the fans have expressed their anger and concern. However, club supremo
Claudio Lotito has hit back at the supporters and has asked them to have
patience.
“The sentiments and passion of the fans must converge into a unified project
and all my initiatives have that final aim,” Lotito told the Corriere dello
Sport. “We hope that those who today have a different opinion can understand
the important thing is to support the club they love. Criticism is accepted
when it is constructive.
“They ought to be thankful. Let’s not forget that today Lazio can happily
balance the books enough to register for the Serie A season, which was not
the case before.
“Now we can make plans. We have recaptured international credibility as well
as two titles, the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup.
“I am the president who has won quicker than any other. Bad seasons can
happen. This year I expect the side to be determined, cohesive, united and
ready to impress the fans.
“This is a squad that can be on a par with anyone.”
Encouraged By Inter Draw
Holding Italian and European champions Inter to a draw is no mean feat but
Bologna accomplished just that in their opening game of the season when they
drew 0-0 with Rafael Benitez’ side in front of their own supporters.
Bologna are expected to struggle for survival again this year but they must
have gathered more confidence after their performance and result against
Inter. However, the Felsinei are poor away from home and they have to be
careful about this.
