The Second Best In Italy
Chievo's start to the 2010-11 campaign has been almost as sensational as
their commencement to life in the Italian top flight when they first arrived.
The Flying Donkeys carved out their third league win out of four on Wednesday
evening when they defeated Napoli in Naples.
Ceo had gone 1-0 behind to a ninth minute goal from Paolo Cannavaro but
veteran striker and talisman Sergio Pellissier found the target twice. The
result has lifted Stefano Pioli's side to second in the league standings with
nine points, just one behind leaders Inter.
Chievo go into Sunday's home fixture against Lazio on a note of caution,
though, as their last league game at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi ended
in a 1-0 defeat to Brescia. However, the Flying Donkeys started their
campaign with a 2-1 defeat of Catania in Verona in late August.
Faith Restored
Lazio fans characteristically vent their anger when the Aquile crashed to a
2-0 defeat to Sampdoria in Genoa in the opening weekend of the season.
However, since then Edy Reja's side are unbeaten in the league and held
Scudetto-challengers Milan to a 1-1 draw in Rome in midweek.
Sergio Floccari's late goal cancelled out Zlatan Ibrahimovic's second-half
strike and put the former Italian champions in fifth place in the table with
seven points, just three off the pace.
Lazio, though have had mixed results on their travels this season. They lost
2-0 to Samp in Genoa but eked out a 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in Florence
last weekend. A win against an in-form Chievo in Verona isn't out of the
picture.
