Lazio 3-1 Bologna
Lazio fended off a late Bologna comeback to record their first victory of the
season.
Stefano Mauri and Tommaso Rocchi had given the Romans what seemed like an
unassailable lead with strikes in the second half.
But when Gaby Mudingayi clawed one back for the visitors with 12 minutes
remaining it set up a frantic finish.
The Rossoblu surged forward in search of an equaliser.
The best opportunity of all fell to substitute Daniele Paponi who, in the
88th minute, headed over the bar Luca Siligardi's dangerous cross towards the
far post.
Lazio put the game beyond doubt when Hernanes struck from the penalty spot
deep in stoppage-time after Daniele Portanova had brought down substitute
Libor Kozak inside the area.
Lazio could have taken the lead in the 26th minute but Mauri's header from
five yards was saved by Bologna goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.
At the other end, Marco Di Vaio struck wide from the heart of the area as
both teams went into the break with all to play for.
Lazio showed more determination in the second half and broke the deadlock in
the 68th minute.
Mauri got behind Rocchi's cross and struck a right-footed shot from the heart
of the area past Viviano.
Lazio doubled their lead seven minutes later.
This time Mauri acted as provider and served Rocchi, whose lob over the
keeper that sent the crowd at the Stadio Olimpico into raptures.
There was little Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera could do to save
Mudingayi's bullet strike from 25 yards as Bologna reduced arrears.
Lazio's Hernanes ended Bologna's hopes when he struck towards the right
corner from the six-yard box.
