MOSOW (AP)—Maria Sharapova will lead Russia against Spain in the Fed Cup
next month.
Sharapova will make her third appearance for Russia. The three-time Grand
Slam champion won both of her singles matches against Israel in 2008. She
lost in opening singles against France last year.
Russia captain Shamil Tarpischev also selected two-time Grand Slam winner
Svetlana Kuznetsova, No. 31 Nadia Petrova and Australian Open
quarterfinalist Ekaterina Makarova for the Feb. 4-5 best-of-five series on
the indoor hard court at the Olympic Arena in Moscow.
Russia has won the Fed Cup title four times since 2004. Russia is 5-1 against
Spain, which won the title five times between 1991 and 1998.
