Camera might not lie, but Cheeks downplays depiction after defeat

By the time Maurice Cheeks met with reporters before last night's game
against the Washington, the 76ers coach was one of the few who had not seen
some portion of the videotape of the emotional conclusion of his Friday night
postgame news conference.
The Sixers had come up empty in a loss to the Boston Celtics. Cheeks first
sat on the team bench for an extended period before joining the players in
the locker room. Later, when he was finished with reporters, he stayed seated
at the dais for several minutes, even after the media had left, after Comcast
SportsNet turned off its camera and lights.
"That wasn't about the game," Cheeks said lightheartedly last night. "That
was probably about you guys more than anything."
Cheeks acknowledged: "I take games hard. I don't know if every coach does
that."
He was still taking it just as hard after Friday night's bus ride to the
airport and on the charter flight to Chicago.
"I sit in the back of the bus, Mo sits up front, and he's usually the first
one off," Steven Hunter said. "By the time I got to the front, he was still
sitting there, his head in his hand. Mind you, I didn't play against Boston,
but I put an arm around him, said, 'It'll be all right. I guarantee you we'll
win [Saturday].' "
Steven
The Sixers turned back the Bulls, 89-75, leading by as many as 26 points.
"I feel the game," Cheeks said. "When I lose a game... you just happened to
see a video [Friday] of me taking it harder. When I played and lost, I didn't
answer the phone. That was the way I was."
He also remains eternally optimistic, saying, "I always think something good
is going to happen, regardless of what I feel for that moment."
"。
Samuel Dalembert acknowledged he hadn't seen the video, or heard much about
what had transpired, but when asked to describe what the season has been
like, he said, "A tornado."
Samuel Dalembert
"It's crazy," Dalembert said. "Every time we get it under control, something
happens again, [as if] all the odds are against us, no matter what we do.
We're trying hard... something's missing."

”I want to win a ring. I want to have the opportunity to get back to
the Finals. All that matters is us getting into the playoffs, because then,
anything can happen.”
