The Philadelphia 76ers named former Sixers player and All-Star
Maurice Cheeks the 21st head coach of the 76ers on May 23, 2005.
Cheeks arrives in Philadelphia after three-plus seasons as head coach
of the Portland Trail Blazers. He recorded a mark of 162-139 (.538)
in Portland, the fourth-highest win total in Blazers history. During
his time in Portland, the Blazers reached the NBA Playoffs twice, and
his 2002-03 squad tied for second in the Pacific Division with a
50-32 record.
今年5月23日，費城七六人隊將前七六人全明星隊員Maurice Cheeks任名為
該隊第二十一任總教練。來到七六人之前，他曾於波特蘭拓荒者掌管兵符達

He joined the Blazers on June 27, 2001, after serving seven seasons
as an assistant coach for the 76ers. Cheeks worked under head coaches
John Lucas (1994-96), Johnny Davis (1996-97), and Larry Brown
(1997-2001). In 2000-01 under Brown, Cheeks helped guide the 76ers to
a record of 56-26 (.683) and a spot in the NBA Finals.

Cheeks played 15 seasons in the NBA, the first 11 with Philadelphia,
before stints with San Antonio, New York, Atlanta and New Jersey. He
retired in 1993 as the league's all-time steals leader and was fifth
on the career assists list. Maurice led the 76ers in assists in all
11 seasons he played in Philadelphia and also topped the team in
steals in each of his first 10 years.

He was selected to the NBA's All-Defensive Team five times (four
first-team, one second-team) and played in four All-Star games. He
was a member of the 76ers 1983 World Championship team. As an NBA
player, Cheeks compiled career averages of 11.1 ppg, 6.7 apg and 2.1
spg in 1.101 games over 15 seasons while shooting .523 from the field
and .793 from the free throw line.
他獲選NBA全防守隊多達五次（四次第一隊、一次第二隊）且參加過四次全明

The 1978 West Texas State graduate was a four-year starter and
three-time MVP in college. He finished his collegiate career third on
the Buffaloes' all-time scoring list, averaging 16.8 points per game
and shooting 56.8 percent from the field as a senior. Cheeks was
selected in the second round of the 1978 NBA Draft (36th overall) by
the Sixers.
Maurice Cheeks於1978年自西德州州大畢業，在校時期的四年均先發上場，三

A favorite in Philadelphia, Cheeks is one of seven former Sixers
players to have his number retired by the club (number 10). Cheeks
chatted live with fans on Sept. 15. Check out the complete chat

Penny Chan (Hong Kong): Hi, what drove you to come back to coach the
sixers???

Maurice Cheeks: Well, I was out of a job. (Laughing) Really, I've
always dreamed about coaching here, and I'm very, very happy to be
given the opportunity to coach the Philadelphia 76ers.
Mo：嗯，我那時候失業了。（笑）說真的，我一向都希望能在這裡執教，而且
我非常、非常高興能有這個機會來帶費城七六人。
France: Hi Mo! I'm a big fan of Samuel Dalembert, and I hope he'll
have a great season in Philadelphia. What do you think of him? What
do you envision for him and his role in the team? Thanks.

Maurice Cheeks: Sam is going to be a big part of our team. His
shotblocking, his ability to run the floor and also he's an
underrated offensive player, so he will be a big part. Last year, the
Sixers got like 16 turnovers per game, and he was a big part of that
and we think we can continue and even improve on that number. He will
be a big player for us this year, a key player.
Mo: Sam會是我們的一大重點。他有火鍋、跑動的速度、而且他的進攻能力被

doing to get them better and do you think he will have a better year?

Maurice Cheeks: Yeah, Chris has been working on rehabilitating his
knees and getting ready to go. Chris Webber is a star, and when stars
are challenged, like Chris was last year, they come back even
stronger. I certainly believe you will see a different Chris Webber
this year, he's that kind of player. The old Chris Webber you've seen
in years past will be back this year.
Mo: 對，Chris一直在努力做膝蓋復健、調整身體。Chris Webber是個明星

Chris (Kentwood): Are there any areas you are gonna focus on A.I.
with this training camp?

Cheeks: I talked to Allen earlier about a few things. He gets
a lot of attention paid to him, and someone had mentioned about him
leading the league in assists, and only once has a player led the
league in assists and scoring. I'm not saying Allen will do that, but
I do think he can lead the league in assists. He's a great player and
can really dish the ball in addition to score it, and I think he'll
continue to improve in that area this year for us.
Mo: 我跟Allen講過幾件事。大家都很注意他，有人講到他可能可以當上聯盟
助攻王，而到現在只有一個球員曾經同時在助攻和得分兩項上排名聯盟第一。
我不是說Allen也會這樣，但是我的確覺得他可以當上助攻王。他是個優異的
球員，除了得分以外，分球也很有一套。我想今年他會在這個方面繼續努力。
