The struggle is in more areas than Chris Webber wants to acknowledge or
accept. It is in the 76ers' adjusted approach to defensive matchups. It is in
the inevitable role change an NBA player in his 14th season must face. It is
understandable, though, that - in the eyes of the player - it is almost never
the right time.

為了因應對方的陣容，近來七六人在防守球員方面做了調整。這讓Chris Webber

Webber has had a long and productive career, holding averages of 21.6 points,
10.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He made it through 75 games last season, his
highest total since 1999-2000 with the Sacramento Kings and within one of his
career best as a rookie with the Golden State Warriors in 1993-94.

Even last season, he put up 20.2 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He has
fought to regain his form, if not all of his athleticism since undergoing
microfracture knee surgery. But in the Sixers' 3-3 start, he has twice found
himself sitting out the entire fourth quarter. He is averaging 9 points, 11
rebounds and 3 assists, but shooting just 37.3 percent from the floor.

Still, it's not the numbers that have kept him off the floor. Coach Maurice
Cheeks has made it clear that he will substitute to best match up with
opponents. If an opposing team comes out with four smaller players and one
big man, he will counter similarly; depending on the situation, Cheeks has a
choice of Samuel Dalembert or Steven Hunter for shot-blocking, or Webber for
post play.

yesterday at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. "I've been asked
to take a different role."

Concerned about his shooting?

"No, not at all," he said. "I just need a rhythm and opportunities. I'm more
concerned with that. The first game, I started out missing jump hooks,
missing easy shots I should've made. I started getting my touch back a little
bit in Toronto (8-for-16). You need opportunities in the game. Practice is
one thing; opportunity is a different thing."

Looking ahead to Wednesday night's game in Seattle and the start of a
three-game Western swing, Cheeks said Webber is in "an adjusted role based on
the way we play." He has equally made it clear to the players that, with the
exception of star guard Allen Iverson, any one of them could be in and out at
any time.

談到即將面對禮拜三舉行的西雅圖之戰，以及連續三場西區作戰，Cheeks表示：

"It's not like I've done anything different," Cheeks said. "I've made it
clear the way we're going to play. If [the opponents] are going small, I'm

play. I'm going to put guys on the floor that I think can guard those guys.
That's where that is.

"I've just said if they have four smalls out there, I'm putting four smalls
out there. If they have five smalls out there, I'm putting five smalls out
there... Am I worrying about somebody? No, that's not where I'm at. I'm
putting guys out there on the floor at that time that are going to help us
win games."

「如果對方放四名矮小球員在場上，那麼我會以四名矮小球員的陣容作戰；如果
對方是擺上五名矮小球員，那我也會以五名矮小球員應戰。我會擔心哪些人沒有

Asked about the adjustment, Webber said, "It's not something I think a player
like me should adjust to. [I] just keep playing.

"Not being in the fourth quarter, things like that that I never had to deal
with before, not being a main part of what's going on, that's what I have to
get used to."

Reminded that he played all but 7 seconds of the fourth quarter last
Wednesday against the Raptors, he said, "That's the way it should be."

Asked about his state of mind, he said, "I think I've been through too much
for it to be down. I know the situation that's in front of me. I'm not going
to adjust, but I have to keep going forward. [If you] adjust, you become
complacent and accept a role that I don't want to accept."
