76ers need Nailon to get playing time

The Sixers should be able to get something out of Lee Nailon.

七六人應該給Lee Nailon多點上場時間。

Nailon, 30, has never been known as much of a defender or rebounder over his
NBA career, but he can score.

He averaged a career-high 14.2 points in New Orleans last season, and while
it's true that somebody has to score on a bad team, Nailon has scored on teams
that weren't so bad as well. He averaged 10.8 points and shot 48.3 percent in
2001-02, starting 41 of 79 games, on a Charlotte Hornets team that got to the
second round of the playoffs.

Nailon and Steven Hunter were the Sixers' two "big" offseason acquisitions, and
right now, neither one is a part of the rotation.

"It's tough," Nailon said after a win over Golden State on Wednesday, another
game that he was available to play, but did not get in. "I feel like I can help

I can understand it with Hunter, because he's a 7-footer, who either can't or

contract over the summer, started the first 13 games when Samuel Dalembert was
out and had a few impressive games in that stretch, but he won't go to the
boards. He's averaging just 3.8 rebounds.

The 6-foot-9, 238-pound Nailon wasn't necessarily brought in for his rebounding
or defense. If he was, then somebody didn't scout him very well. He was a
player, I thought, that would give the team some scoring punch off the bench,
and their bench hasn't had much scoring punch lately.

I even thought he might push Kyle Korver for that starting small forward spot,

"Lee will give us some added offense and experience," Sixers team president
Billy King said when the team signed him in September.

Sure, the Sixers have had some rebounding issues this season. And rookie
forward Shavlik Randolph has come in and provided that energy and help on the
boards, and yes, Matt Barnes brings some energy defensively at the small

five of the last six games. In the first nine games, Nailon was averaging 14.7
minutes per night, 6.8 points and 2.7 rebounds. That last statistic is probably
what got him in trouble.

Still, you can't tell me he can't get some consistent minutes.

Nailon scored a season-high 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting and had six rebounds
in 25 solid minutes in a win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 13, but boy
does that seem like a long time ago. He's now averaging 4.4 points, 1.7
rebounds and shooting 54 percent in 10.9 minutes per game.

"Early on, he was in the rotation," Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "It's a
long season, and as the season progresses, guys that weren't in the rotation
they'll be back in the rotation. We have guys that specialize in their
positions, so to speak, and Lee is kind of an in-between. He's like a three
(small forward) and four (power forward). As I told him, his time will come
around again. The trick is to be ready when your time comes."
