Something's changing tonight. Maybe the 76ers' starting lineup. Maybe the
substitution rotation. Maybe a couple of players' positions.
But apparently not the roster.
A three-way trade scenario involving the Sixers, the Sacramento Kings and the
Boston Celtic that turned up yesterday on ESPN's Web site turned out to be old
news, at least according to a source familiar with the Sixers' situation.
The source said the deal, which would have sent Sixers center Samuel Dalembert
to the Kings, was discussed before the start of the NBA's regular season. The
source said the various contract numbers all worked, but nothing ever came of
it.
The specifics had the Sixers acquiring Tony Allen and Brian Scalabrine from the
Celtics, and Kenny Thomas from the Kings. The Celtics were to add Andres
Nocioni from the Kings, with the Kings landing Dalembert and Boston's J.R.
Giddens.
The stumbling blocks apparently included Dalembert's contract ($12.12 million
this season, $13 million next season, plus a 15 percent trade kicker to be paid
within 30 days), and Nocioni's contract ($7.5 million this season, a total of
$28.5 million through 2012-13)).

Dalembert asked to be traded in February, and the Sixers have been unsuccessful
in trying to accommodate him. But after practice yesterday at Philadelphia
College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dalembert said, "After the season started, my
mind is I'm still a 76er. I'm here now, let's make the best of it. Let's get
out there and win some games.
"The goal right now is to try and get us back over .500, and that's my goal,
too,'' Dalembert added. "I want to get back to the state of mind the way we
usually are, happy to come in to practice. Whatever happens, happens. At the
end of the day, I don't hold the key or control anything.''
Ed Stefanski, the Sixers' president/general manager, was unavailable for
comment. But Marc Cornstein, Dalembert's agent, who has permission to seek out
a deal, said: "They've explored trade options, and both sides continue to do
that. I don't know that there's a team we haven't reached out to. There have
been a lot of talks, a lot of different scenarios. I don't think anything's
imminent or happening.
"I think Sam's been a pretty good soldier about this. We're not jumping up and
down, saying he needs to be traded. He loves Philly, but he also understands
there are situations that run their course. When that happens, you try and find
a solution."

Coach Eddie Jordan said he would make no hard and fast decisions until game
time tonight, when the Sixers host Charlotte. The likelihood is that Elton
Brand will see some time as the center with the second unit, but it remained
unclear whether he would stay as the starter at power forward. It is equally
possible that Rodney Carney could start at small forward, with Thaddeus Young
moving to power forward.
Whatever changes Jordan makes will be predicated on attempting to generate
points in the absence of Marreese Speights, who will miss 6 to 8 weeks with a
partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee.
