Doug Collins tried for each of the past two seasons to add
Kwame Brown to the Sixers' roster.

Now, he finally has.

Brown, 30, played his first two NBA seasons under Collins in
Washington. The former first-overall pick has always struggled
to meet the expectations that come with being the highest
selection in the NBA draft.

For his 11-year pro career, the 6-11 center/forward has
averaged 6.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in 22.4 minutes per game.
In 11 years, he’s played in just 585 games and in five of his
11 seasons, he has appeared in fewer than 50 games. Last
season, he played in nine games before season-ending surgery
to repair a tear in his pectoralis major, the large chest
muscle that attaches to his right shoulder.

這個6-11的中鋒(按:應該有超過七呎，畢竟是高中測的)在他的十一年
生涯當中，只打了其中的585場，比Andre Iguodala還要少；原因當然

“I think when people view Kwame Brown, they look at a guy who
was a bust as the No. 1 draft pick in the NBA and that’s not
what we’re signing him for,” Collins said earlier this
offseason before the Sixers traded for Andrew Bynum. “I had
him at that period in time when he was 19 years old, and I
understand the pressure that young guy was under. I wish I
could go back and be a better coach and a better mentor for
him at that time.

“Again, we’re not asking him to come in here and be the No.
1 pick like back then. He’s coming to a place where he feels
good about. I think we’re going to see the best of what Kwame
has to offer.”

At that time, Collins was strongly leaning toward starting
Brown at center with Spencer Hawes starting at power forward.
Hawes has been the starting center each of the last two
seasons for the Sixers.

The addition of Bynum immediately changed Brown’s role with
the team. Still, he does have a two-year contract with the
Sixers, the second season being a player option year.

在Bynum來到之前，Doug是強烈希望能夠讓Kwame先發，並搭配讓耗子從

In a reserve role, Brown can bring toughness, defensive
rebounding and he can defend the post on his own. Two years
ago in Charlotte, he started 50 of the 66 games he played. He
averaged 7.9 points and a career-high 6.8 rebounds, playing 26
minutes a night.

Kwame可以從板凳席出發貢獻他強悍的對抗能力、防守籃板的保護，以

Given the injury history of Brown and Bynum, big man depth is
essential for the Sixers this year.

考慮到Kwame跟Drew的傷病紀錄，前場陣容的深度與質量都是今年七六
人不可輕忽且必要的一部分。

Brown is well traveled. Philadelphia is his seventh team.
Before, his play hasn’t matched the expectations.

For the first time in Brown’s career, those expectations
should be more reasonable for him to meet.

Kwame在過去常常轉隊，七六人算算已經是這個前高中跳級生的第七個
球隊了，而在過去這些年當中，他的表現一直沒有辦法滿足大多數人的
期待；不過在費城，也許人們第一次不再這麼期待他能夠發揮那些他沒
