ESPN recently completed its annual ranking of all 500 NBA
players. This is the same list which ranked 76ers forward
Lavoy Allen as dead last in the league a season ago, only to
issue him a face-to-face apology after the Temple grad held
his own in the team’s run to the Eastern Conference
semifinals.

ESPN已經完成了他們這個年度的球員排行榜計畫。這個排行榜跟天普王
一直都有密切的聯繫，因為去年的這個時候，ESPN把他排在了最後一名，
而因為這個粗魯的預測，最後ESPN的記者不得不當面跟他致歉，因為他
在ECSF實在打得太出色了。

To his credit, Allen was a good sport about it, thanking the
web site for the publicity and even changing his Twitter
handle to @Mr_5Hundred. This year, ESPN has the 23-year-old
ranked No. 232 out of 500. Not quite from Skid Row to Madison
Avenue, but most assuredly Allen’s performance has earned him
some significant minutes in the Sixers’ rotation. But does he
deserve to start at power forward?

不過更令人讚賞的是，天普王面對這樣的粗魯質疑不但沒有生氣，反而
對ESPN充滿感謝，他甚至把自己的推特帳號改成了「第五百名先生」來
激勵自己。而今年，ESPN送給即將邁入23歲的天普王一個禮物，將他的
名次從第500提昇到第232。雖然不是一個具有灰姑娘一般故事性的躍升，
但是他的確用他的表現贏得了他在七六人輪替當中穩定的上場時間與特
殊地位。不過現在，注意，問題來了：他現在到底值不值得被提拔成七
六人的先發大前鋒呢？

Head coach Doug Collins has gone on record saying his starting
lineup will include Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner in the
backcourt and Andrew Bynum in the middle. The Sixers currently
have 17 players on their training camp roster. The players who
could potentially vie for minutes with Allen are Thaddeus
Young, Spencer Hawes, Kwame Brown, Arnett Moultrie and Devin
Searcy.

總教練Doug Collins目前親口證實的先發只有三個人：ET/Jrue/Drew。
目前七六人在訓練營的二十人名單當中已經填滿了十七個空位，而如果
單看前場，除了Drew應得的時間外，其他有限的時間競爭對手實在驚人。
天普王想要拿到更多的上場時間，他就必需要同時跟Thad/Spence/Keame
Arnett Moultrie，還有夏季聯盟表現不俗，很有可能被給予保證約的年
輕大前鋒Devin Searcy等五人競爭。

Other than Young, who is a decided matchup problem at the four
because of his size and quickness, none of the other names are
head and shoulders above Allen, nor are they true power
forwards. I don’t like my power forward shooting a bunch of
jump shots and definitely not three-pointers. There are plenty
of players who can shoot from the outside.

但是再看一眼這個名單，除了Thad必需要在四號位置獲得較多時間，以
最大化他的機動力、速度與身材的優勢；其他的球員們，除了天普王以
外都不是一個正統的大前鋒。其實如果我是教練我也不希望自己的大前
鋒一直待在外線投籃，更可憎的是這些統統都不是三分。要找到可以投
籃的貨色，自由市場跟二輪就有一大把了。

A power forward’s place is in the post, on the block, 15 feet
and in. In my mind, Allen’s upside, strength and instincts at
the position make him the favorite to play the four spot.
Allen showed a great knack for positioning, defense,
rebounding and hitting a shot when needed during last year’s
playoffs. He also held his own against sure-fire Hall-of-Famer
Kevin Garnett, proving he is not intimidated by high-quality
opponents.

在我心目中一個正統的大前鋒應該要具備低位單打、禁區攪和、通常待
在十五呎以內的區域進行他的動作等特質。而我認為天普王在四號位置
上還有很多待開發的潛力，他還具備著珍貴的對抗性與防守直覺，這些
優勢都讓他成為我心目中應該要在四號位置先發不二人選的理由。在去
年的季後賽當中，天普王展現了他卓越的站位概念與空間感、強悍的防
守能量、可靠的籃板保護，還能投進很多中距離。更甚者，他在ECSF面
對防守準名人堂球星Kevin Garnett的工作時毫不畏懼，並且展現出他
能有著跟更強悍的對手競爭的雄厚資本。

Whatever Bynum is or will be in a Sixers uniform will greatly
benefit from not having to shoulder the entire rebounding or
defensive load. As Charles Barkley put it, not that Bynum can’
t be the man, but the center has never been the first option
in his entire NBA career. No slight against any of the other
starting PF candidates, but Allen gives Bynum the best chance
to transition into a force with the Sixers. Allen is a player
who looks to defend, rebound and hustle first rather than get
his own shot.

無論Drew會在費城待多久，替他在籃板與防守上減壓都會是一種合情合
理的保險作法。我不像Chuck這麼保守，我的確認為他能夠成為第一流
的禁區球員，但是中鋒似乎不是他剛進入聯盟的第一志願。不是要打擊
其他四號候選人的意思，但是我確實認為天普王跟他同時先發，將能夠
提供Drew一個轉換跑道或者在場上喘息的空間。尤其天普王在場上防守
至上、確實卡位、永遠拼命、將團隊置於個人之上的特質，都很適合讓
他跟Drew一起上場。

Yes, the rotation at the four will likely be fluid as Collins
cements the best starting unit, but Allen’s approach of
letting the game come to him and willingness to do the
intangibles puts the team in the best position to succeed.

的確就如同Doug所表示，目前在四號的可能性與選項都還是開放狀態，
但是像是天普王這種總是任勞任怨且樂意著重各種細節的球員，如果能
夠獲得先發機會，在我心中這將會是離成功最接近的最佳方案。
