Holiday out to grow as leader in contract year

Aside from a week spent with the USA Select team in Las Vegas
where he scrimmaged against the U.S. Olympic team, it was a
relatively quiet summer for Jrue Holiday.
當Jrue必須花上一整個禮拜參加靶子隊陪奧運美國男籃練習，這個夏天
相較之下對Jrue而言應該是比較平淡的一個夏天。
He worked out, hung with family and friends at home in
Southern California and spent some time in London watching his
girlfriend Lauren Cheney win the gold medal with the U.S. women
’s soccer team.
他努力訓練，在南加州跟親友相聚，另外還去看他的女朋友，美國奧運
女足代表隊國手Lauren Cheney得到他的第二面奧運金牌。
With a busy offseason like that, it was kind of tough for
Holiday to make much news. But give him credit … he did.
如果一個人的夏天這麼忙，還可以變成新聞焦點，那顯然他是個萬中選
一的引戰奇才。不過..必須稱讚他，他作到了。
During the first week of July a story surfaced that Holiday
would be seeking a “max contract extension” from the Sixers
when his current deal expires at the end of this season. Of
course, this story surfaced before Andrew Bynum was traded to
the Sixers and it just so happens that like Holiday, the big
man will be looking for a max deal at the end of the season,
too.
在七月第一個禮拜，有報導指出Jrue在邁入新秀保證約最後一年的暑假，
正在尋求七六人高層給他一張頂薪續約。當然，這個消息遠早於Drew被

In the NBA, teams are allowed to designate one player to
receive a five-year maximum deal. Given a choice between
giving the max to Bynum or Holiday, the Sixers’ point guard
likely will have to take a lesser deal from the Sixers.
在新的CBA中，球隊被允許跟一個球員，在合約尚未結束前達成一份五
年期的續約協議。因此如果他要追求的是續約，他只能追求一張四年期
的續約。
That is if he re-signs in Philadelphia.
當然，這建立於他想要留隊的前提之上。
Of course, it was a bit premature to talk about contracts and
max deals on the eve of the first day of training camp.
Besides, Holiday took the politically correct path when it
came to talk about his contract status.
當然，在訓練營開訓的第一天，談論有官續約或者重簽的話題，其實有
一些言之過早。不過，當媒體問到有關合約狀況與未來發展時，Jrue則
有了一番政治正確的表示。
“I’m not really [thinking about a new contract],” Holiday
said during Monday afternoon’s media day at the Philadelphia
College of Osteopathic Medicine. “I’d much rather win. It
just progresses from last year. I felt like we should have
advanced past the second round. If I take care of business
then [a new contract] will follow.”
Jrue:
我並沒有很認真的把合約問題放在我的第一順位，比起合約談判，我更
在乎的是贏球。我希望能延續去年的成就，而且就我的想法中，我們能

During training camp before last year’s condensed season,
Holiday talked about his goal of becoming an All-Star or an
Olympian. Those are pretty high aspirations, but not at all
unrealistic. Though he is going into his fourth NBA season,
Holiday is still just 22 years old and still honing his game.
After making huge strides during the postseason in 2010-11,
Holiday suffered from the breakneck pace of last year’s
schedule.
上個球季的訓練營之前，Jrue曾經提過他的目標是成為一個全明星，以
及被選入奧運代表隊。這絕對是很遠大的志向，不過事實上並沒有實現。

According to head coach Doug Collins, the lack of practice
time during the condensed season was especially difficult for
his young team, with no one suffering for it more than Holiday.

對於他所帶領的年輕球隊顯得更加艱難；而且沒有人比Jrue還要更掙扎。
“It hurt Jrue,” Collins said of the lack of practice time. “
When we were able to practice he wasn’t able to do a lot of
the extra things after practice because we were in a sprint –
we were in a 66-game sprint. Now, we get back to practice and
get guys back with their coaches. We have been able to develop
players and get them to play their max.”
Doug:

Needless to say, Holiday’s max for the 2012-13 season will be
much different than in the past. For instance, Holiday likely
will handle the ball more this season, playing as more of a
traditional point guard. Last season, Holiday played more of a
hybrid point, sometimes taking on the guise of a two-guard.
其實無須多言，這個球季對Jrue來說，重要性與揮灑空間更勝以往。舉
例來說，Jrue絕對有更多的持球組織時間，並且將會有更長的時間專注
在打傳統一號。上個球季他打很多雙能衛的時間，甚至很多時候他必須
打上二號。
That worked often, with Holiday averaging 13.5 points per game
and shooting 38 percent from three-point range. However, there
were plenty of rough stretches when Holiday had trouble with
his shooting stroke. For instance, last season there was a
two-game stretch against Orlando and Dallas in which Holiday
went 1 for 17 from the field with five turnovers.
這樣的安排經常奏效，Jrue去年平均一場能貢獻13.5分，並且有著38.5%
的三分命中率。但是，當他找不到準星的時候，場上的連續性相較之下
也會變得更掙扎。舉例來說，上個球季連續對上魔術與小牛的比賽，當

Don’t count on that happening this year, mostly because with
the revamped roster, Holiday won’t have to shoot the ball as
much.

“Jrue knows his role is going to be different this year,”
Collins said.

Yes, he does. In fact, Holiday says he wants to lead the team
in assists this season, while being a leader as one of the
elder statesmen on the team.
An elder statesman at age 22 …

“One thing is to be more of leader and more of a voice on the
court and off the court,” Holiday said about his goals for
the upcoming season. “There are a couple of stats like
assists. Last year, I think [Andre Iguodala] led the team.
This year, with me handling the ball more, I can bump up my
assists.
“For the team, it’s just getting the team in places where we
can do what we need to do.”
Jrue:
要成為一個更強而有力的領導者，其中一個要領就是在場上跟場下都必
須讓自己多加發言，就跟在場上組織一樣。上個球季，我想我們依靠著
AI9領導這個球隊；這個球季，球將更多的掌握在我手中，我將能提昇

In other words, if Holiday can help the Sixers win games then
the new contract will be close at hand.
換句話說：只要Jrue能夠幫助七六人贏得更多的比賽，那他的新合約將
不再只是個未來式，而是會緊緊的握在他的手中。
