In Tuesday’s opening game, the Indiana Pacers/Philadelphia 76ers
hosted the Portland Trail Blazers. In an overtime thriller it was
the Pacers/Sixers that prevailed 92-86 over the Blazers. John Salmons
hit a basket with 22.4 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory
for the Sixers.
Down 22-14 in the first quarter, the Pacers/Sixers went on a 9-0 run
sparked by John Solmons who scored six of the nine points. Imke Udoka
hit a jumpshot to end the Blazers drought to give the Blazers a one
point lead at the end of the quarter.
The Blazers scored four quick points to open the second quarter before
the Pacers/Sixers went on a 16-0 run to open up a 13 point lead. Zach
Randolph ended the Blazers shooting drought with a basket at the four
minute mark. The Sixers took a 10-point lead into the locker room at
halftime.
After trailing by as many as 12 in the third quarter, the Blazers fought
back and trailed by four at the end heading into the fourth quarter.
Qyntel Woods and Zach Randolph combined for 16 of the Blazers 22 third
quarter points.
The Blazers tied the score at 74 and took the lead for the first time
since the first quarter on a pair of free throws made by Qyntel Woods.
With the scored tied at 80 Zach Randolph missed a 20 foot jump shot at
the buzzer to force overtime.
John Salmons tallied a game high 27 points for the Sixers while James
Jones tossed in 18. Qyntel Woods also tallied a game high 27 points
while Zach Randolph added 26 points and a game high 11 rebounds for the
Blazers.
Next up for the Pacers/Sixers will be the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday
at 6:00 p.m. MT. The Utah Jazz will host the Portland Trial Blazers on
Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. MT.
