Philadelphia 76ers President and General Manager Billy King announced today
that the Sixers have waived forward Sam Clancy. The Sixers roster stands at
15.
In six preseason games, Clancy averaged 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 16.0
minutes.
A second round selection (45th pick overall) in the 2002 NBA Draft by the
76ers, Clancy spent the entire 2002-03 season on the injured list rehabbing
a left knee injury suffered in a pre-draft workout with the Phoenix Suns on
May 13, 2002. Clancy had surgery on his left knee on May 22, 2003, performed
by L.A. Lakers physician Dr. Steven Lombardo to repair a left patella
dislocation.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound forward finished his collegiate career at University
of Southern California (1998-02) as the Trojan’s all-time leader in blocked
shots (195) and ranked second in rebounding (839), third in scoring (1,657)
and fifth in steals (134). The 2002 PAC-10 Player of the Year was originally
an early-entry candidate for the 2001 NBA Draft, but withdrew his name from
consideration prior to the draft, returning for his fourth season with the
Trojan’s.
