Hornets 106, Sixers 99 (OT)
Postgame Notes
Tonight was the Sixers first overtime contest this season. Philadelphia was
4-3 in overtime games last season. With tonight’s overtime loss, the Sixers
fell to 0-5 all-time against the Hornets in overtime contests. The last time
the 76ers and Hornets played an extra period was on May 4, 1999 at Charlotte
(L, 110-117).
Allen Iverson recorded four steals tonight to extend his streak of 29-straight
games with at least one steal. The streak is the longest active streak in the
NBA. During his career, Iverson’s longest stretch of games with at at least
one steal or more in a game, stands at 43-straight (2/2/03 to 12/7/02)
Kenny Thomas grabbed 16 rebounds with 15 points tonight for his first
double-double of the season, and 15th double-double since joining the Sixers
last season. Thomas’ 16 rebounds was the highest single-game total for a
Sixer this season. The previous high was Derrick Coleman, with 10 rebounds
at Sacramento (10/31/03).
For the first time this season, two Sixers (Eric Snow: 12 points, 11 assists;
Kenny Thomas: 15 points, 16 rebounds) posted double-doubles in the same game.
The Sixers scored 42 points in the first half tonight. It was the 76ers
lowest single-half point total this season.
Allen Iverson had 29 points tonight to lead the Sixers. He has led the 76ers
in scoring in all five this games this season.
Glenn Robinson scored 20 points tonight and became the first 76er other than
Allen Iverson to score 20 or more points this season. Iverson has done so in
four of the five contests.
New Orleans grabbed 51 rebounds tonight, marking the highest single-game
total for a Sixers opponent this season. Before this evening, the high was
Miami’s 44 rebounds on Oct. 28.
Eric Snow’s three-pointer with 55.3 seconds remaining in regulation was his
first successful three-point shot of the season. The shot tied the game at
89-89. Coming into the game, Snow had only attempted one three-point field
goal this season (vs. Miami, 10/28/03). (其實 Snow 的關鍵三分,往往十分有用)
Eric Snow dished out 12 assists tonight, which was the highest assist mark
for a Sixer this season. Last season, Snow posted double-digit assists 12
times.
New Orleans shot 11-12 on free throws tonight, marking the lowest single-game
output from the line by a Sixers opponent this season.(Hornets:既然在外面能得
分,我幹麻沒事闖進去要犯規...iarukas:>"<) The previous low was on Oct. 28,
when Miami connected on 14-of-17 free throws.
With tonight’s win, the Hornets improved to 16-13 all-time in Philadelphia.
They are one of only three franchises with a winning record in Philadelphia
(Minnesota and Orlando).(新剋星出現?)
The Hornets scored 106 points tonight, making the Sixers 0-3 this season when
surrendering 100 or more points.(當然,因為本季我們連超過一百分都還沒拿到哩)
New Orleans converted on 13-of-30 from behind the three-point line. The 13
three-pointers were the most by a 76ers opponent since March 7, 2003, when
Seattle connected on 13-of-23 in a 108-99 Sixers victory. Coming into
tonight’s contest, Sixers opponents were a combined 16-of-43 on
three-point field goals.
Quotes
Sixers Head Coach Randy Ayers
On his team’s performance
“We tried to do too much from an individual standpoint and forcing the play.
In the second half, we sort of got a little bit of a rhythm, but still we’re
able to get into a little better rhythm and got people shots. Glenn (Robinson)
hit a couple shots and we got a ten-point lead. We’ve talked about this all
along, we’ve got to grind it out at that point. There’s a couple stoppages
in play and we just didn’t come out and execute and take the right shots at
that time. At that time, we were in the bonus and we should have been driving
the basketball to try to keep our advantage. We didn’t do that at all, and
gave away a ten-point lead. So, give them (Hornets) credit. They hit some big
shots in overtime, executed well, got the right match-ups that thy

On his team’s rebounding
“They beat us to loose balls, that’s what they did. It wasn’t always a
ball off of the rim, it was more of a ball off of the floor. Long shots
produce long rebounds, and they beat us to the loose balls. We were just a
step behind at that point of the game. But,I still thought we had some
energy. We had to be able to force it into overtime. So, you take the
good with the bad in those situations.”
On his advantage going into overtime
“Well, being at home, I thought the crowd was into the game at that point,
and we had just made a comeback. I thought that the energy would carry us
over into overtime, but they came out and hit a quick two or three baskets
and really took it out of us.”
Sixers Guard Allen Iverson
On his three-point shooting
“I felt like I took some good ones. I took a couple bad ones. I feel like
I had some nice looks. There were shots that I could have made. I’m going
to take them. I just didn’t want to take 11, like I did the other night.
That was a bit much for me. And nine is too many for me, especially when
I’m not making them. But if I could do it over again, I’d let a couple
of those go. But some of them I was satisfied with.”
On the Sixers performance tonight
“We had every opportunity in the world to win this basketball game, and we
just let it go. We were up eight one time, and then we were up ten in the
second half. That was the time to put our foot on their neck. We just didn’t
execute. We weren’t able to do it.”
On playing with Glenn Robinson
“I don’t see anything wrong with it. I like the look of it. It looks solid
to me. I’m happy as a little kid in a candy store having him on the squad.
He makes it a lot easier for me. He makes it a lot easier for the team. This
was just one night we couldn’t stop them defensively. I just feel like, with
Baron (Davis) going off the way he was, we needed to get the ball out of his
hands instead of having so much pride and just trying to guard him the way
you guard anyone else. Teams wouldn’t let me do that. Teams wouldn’t let
me just come down and do whatever I wanted to do. They would try to get the
ball out of my hands. I noticed tonight that every time I had the ball at
the top of the key or when I got it on the wing they called zone and
everybody just packed it in. I think that they did a great job. That might
have been the reason that I took all the threes that I took. I just feel
like one man didn’t hurt us tonight, because that was a great team effort
from them. But I just feel like when a guy is going off like that you have
to get the ball out of his hands, try to trap him as much as you can."(今天
A.I. 的話真多呀@"@)
On the Hornets’ three-point shooting
“If they are making them off pick-and-roll, I feel like you have to trap
them, and get the ball out of the hands of the guy that’s making them. I
think that Baron (Davis) made 45 to 50 percent of those. I just thought we
should have gotten the ball out of his hands. It’s tough to be the team
that makes 13 threes. I didn’t even know it was that many. If they made
13, I feel like Baron (Davis) made all of them. But Steve Smith came up
and shot the ball well. Darrell Armstrong…got good looks at threes.”
Sixers Guard Aaron McKie
On how the Sixers lost tonight
“It’s been the same thing since the beginning of the year, we have to
contend. In order to beat these elite teams in the league you have to
contend for 48 minutes. We had those lapses that cost us the game.”
On how you guard a team that is shooting so many three-pointers
“With most teams in the league, you really don’t mind [the opponent
shooting so many three-pointers], with the exception of a Dallas Maverick
team, because that is what they do. Sometimes, when a team is throwing up
all of those threes and they are making them like that, the only thing you
can do is contest them and hope they don’t go in.”
On whether this Sixers team is as good defensively as those in
the recent past(記者大人問題真尖銳)
“We can be. It is going to take some time. We all have to take it on
individually as defenders, and we have to do it collectively, as a team,
to win.”
Sixers Forward Glenn Robinson
On how comfortable he feels with his new team
“I am comfortable - I just missed some shots, and it is not the first or
last time I am going to miss shots.”
On how much his sprained left ankle is affecting his shot
“I am not getting the lift on my shot like I would like; I can’t cut like
I want to on my sprained ankle. It is bugging me a lot. I can’t cut like I
want to; I can’t really explode off it like I want to. With missing the
first three games, I really want to be out there. It is not broken so I’m
going to just going with it.”
Hornets Guard Baron Davis
On the Hornets 4-1 record
“We’re finding ways to win ballgames. We’re keeping ourselves in it. We
had a little slip in Atlanta and bounced back (tonight) in a tough atmosphere
against a tough team and we were able to win the basketball game.”
On his 6-11 three-point shooting performance
“I hit like three in a row. Once I hit that third one I knew that if I got
another good look I was going to keep taking them and that’s what I was able
to do, just keep shooting.”
On the Steve Smith’s performance in overtime
“He’s a veteran ball player, and a great scorer in this league. He’s
always been a great scorer. He’s a guy who just knows how to play, and
we’re just glad to have him.”
Hornets Guard Steve Smith
On how he fits into the New Orleans offense
“If you look at it, the offense they run is pretty much similar to what I
ran in Atlanta so that’s good. I just wanted to come in, fit in and try to
help win ballgames.”
On the intensity of tonight’s game in overtime
“It was a big time game (and) both teams wanted it. I think we had more
aggressive play in overtime and had a little bit more energy.”
“Usually in overtime, the team that is more aggressive gets the calls and gets
the plays. We talked about coming out and being aggressive, not being back on ou
r heels and not let them come at us. Let’s go at them and see what happens. Bar
on (Davis) set the tone for us and we just followed.”
