Postgame Quotes - April 26
Hornets 99, Sixers 85
Sixers Coach Larry Brown
“Paul (Silas) had them (Hornets) ready to play and I didn’t. Early in the
game we executed well but after that I didn’t see any of that. I did a
real bad job of preparing our players for this game, Paul did a great job.
“(Hornets Bench) (Jerome) Moiso, (Courtney) Alexander gave the Hornets a big
lift. They (Hornets) deserved to win. Baron (Davis), God bless him for coming
off an injury and playing like he did.
“This thing is a series now. We took care of our home court and then they
(Hornets) came in here and played like they did.
“We have to learn from this. Tonight we never got into anything offensive.
We took a lot of shots and gave them (Hornets) easy baskets at the other
end."
On Philadelphia’s bench play
“Our bench played 39 minutes and came up with one field goal."
On the Hornets crowd
“I noticed them from the beginning. This is a great atmosphere in which to
play in. This (crowd noise) is what it is supposed to be like in the
playoffs.
Sixers Guard Allen Iverson
“They outhustled us tonight. You can throw out the X’s and O’s in a game
like this. They wanted it. When you can get 20 offensive rebounds, that’s
a big, big deal. They wanted it more.
“Those guys are down 2-0 and they had an All-Star (Mashburn) sitting over
there on the side in street clothes. The love of the game came out. They
showed a lot of heart and a lot of character without somebody so intricate
to their team. The other guys on the bench now have to play a bigger role.
Baron played well, and those guys followed. It was a good team effort from
them."
On the crowd
“We’ve played eighty-something games. It’s always different in the playoffs.
The crowds tend to be louder in the playoffs. That crowd tonight was great.
I think they fed off their crowd tonight and played well.
“After a game like this, you throw it away and try to get it out of your mind.
You work on all the negative things and concentrate on the positive things
and carry it on to the next game.
“We didn’t underestimate them at all. It would be easy to do something like
that. We understood those guys were going to play with pride in their own
house. I don’t think our guys approached it that way.”
Sixers Forward Keith Van Horn
On what happened in the 4th quarter
“I think they really picked up their defensive intensity. They were much
more active than us. They were more active on the boards, more so when they
were last game, and they hurt us on the boards early too. We didn't respond."
On the Hornets mindset of the game
“They came into the game with a much better mindset. I think they wanted to
play a physical game and hurt us on the boards like we did to them last game.
We knew how they were going to play tonight. We didn’t respond, but we have
the opportunity Monday night to get a win and pick things back up.”
On the play of the Hornets bench
“Their bench was essentially the team that beat us tonight. Kenny Anderson,
(Jerome) Moiso. Those guys came in and played a great game. They had a lot
more energy than us, and it showed.”
