This time, Chris Webber did tell a friend.

這一次， Chris Webber 確實地告訴一位朋友。



And this is what Webber told that friend when he learned
that the 76ers had fired coach Jim O'Brien after just one
season and had hired Maurice Cheeks: "I said, 'Oh, this is
going to be my fault,' " the Sixers forward was saying last
night before Game 5 of the Detroit Pistons-San Antonio
Spurs NBA championship series.

關於費城七六人炒掉只幹了一季的總教練 O'Brien，還聘請了新任
總教練 Cheeks 的事，這位七六人隊的前鋒球員在今年活塞對馬刺
的總冠軍系列賽第五戰之前如此表示：「我會說，這恐怕又將成為
我的（另外一個）傑作。」



"We laughed about it," Webber said. "It was the first thing
we thought about."

「我們微笑以對，這是我們最初的反應，」 Webber 說。




Whatever president/general manager Billy King's motivation
to make the change really was, this was hardly a decision
that could be laid at the feet of Webber, who was acquired
from Sacramento at the trade deadline and only appeared in
21 games with them during the regular season.

無論身兼總裁與總管的 Billy King 為球隊做了何等激烈的變動，
都不應該將責任歸咎於本季在交易截止日之前才由沙加緬度交易過

Interestingly, for all of Webber's 12 seasons in the
league, he said, "I don't know Maurice very well at all,
but I respect him as a player a whole hell of a lot.

"I've had a lot of great relationships with point guards,
and to me, once you're a player you're always a player,"
Webber said. "I respect him as a coach; I'm just looking
forward to working with him. Everybody knows about him. We
had a hard time playing against him [when Webber was with
the Kings and Cheeks was coaching the Portland Trail
Blazers]."

Webber接著說：「我和許多控球後衛有相當棒的關係，而且對我來
說，只要一日為運動員，終身為運動員。我尊敬他（Cheeks）成為
一位教練；現在我只期盼著能為他打球。他的教練功力是很知名的

Webber said he doesn't like to speak about the knee injury
that required major surgery two seasons ago, because "it
only sounds self-serving."

Webber說他不喜歡去談論兩年前那個讓他動過重大手術的膝傷，因
為那聽起來只想到自己。


But some combination of the trade, his experience with
O'Brien and the subsequent change has left him searching
for words to describe his feelings.

但是交易不斷發生，和 O'Brien相處的過程以及之後的轉變，使他
嘗試找到某些字眼來形容他的感覺。


"[Playing for O'Brien], it was so short, it's really hard
to know what to say, to put any type of finger on it," he
said. "I'll say, for the most part, it was just a situation
where everybody was frustrated. It's just kind of hard to
describe. It was just the most unique situation I've ever
been in. I'm looking forward to falling back in love with
basketball."

「為 O'Brien打球的日子太短，這使我真的很難去理解他要表達的
一切，使我很難融入隊形，」Webber接著說：「我會說，最重要的
是，這是一個所有人都不願見到的情形，難以言喻。這是我遇過最
特別的情況，我還是期待著自己能找回對籃球的熱愛。」
