MINNEAPOLIS - A fan seated directly behind the visitors' bench in the Target
Center merrily told the 76ers the game should have started at 2 o'clock.

在Target Center裡，一位坐在客隊板凳區正後方的球迷，興高采烈地告訴七六人，

It started, in fact, at noon, Central Standard Time. It was the Sixers who got
started at roughly 2.

Better late than never.

Don't ask why they do such things. They just do. This time, they were down 19
points with 1 minute, 58 seconds remaining in the third quarter, down 12 at the
start of the fourth quarter, still down seven with 2:18 to play.

The Sixers raced to their locker room as if their bus was going to leave
without them after Andre Iguodala dropped in a followup 10-footer as the final
buzzer sounded to secure an 86-84 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

A team that, for much of this 20-20 season, has made a habit of failing to
hang on down the stretch suddenly has emerged with an overtime victory over
Memphis and a buzzer-beater over the startled Timberwolves. That gives them
their first back-to-back victories since Dec. 18 and 21 (Toronto and Golden
State) and their first back-to-back victories holding opponents under 100
points since Dec. 10 and 12 (New Jersey and Minnesota).

這支戰績20勝20敗的球隊，已經習慣無法堅持到最後時刻。但突然間，他們擺脫

They did it with Allen Iverson scoring 39 points, just eight fewer than the
rest of his teammates.

And this was one time when they needed every point Iverson - the NBA's second-
leading scorer - could muster. Down 19, he told his teammates, "I promise you
we'll win this game. If we get it under 10, I promise you we'll win it.''

When Iguodala's final shot swished, this is what raced through his mind: "We
were down by so much, it was like a sigh of relief, being that we've had so

toward the end. We got over that hump.''

Even with Iguodala's heroics, this was still very nearly the victory that
wasn't. With the score tied at 84-84, Webber missed a dunk, then appeared to
have tipped the ball in only to see Samuel Dalembert called for interference,
tipping the ball in as it was resting on the rim with 29.2 seconds left.

That gave the T-Wolves breathing room, but Marko Jaric missed a 17-footer with
12.9 seconds remaining, Webber gathered in the rebound and the Sixers called
a timeout. They devised a sidecourt inbounds play designed to put the ball in
Iverson's hand, have Webber set a screen and then pop open on the right wing.
The ball went from Iverson to Webber, who drove to the basket, putting up a
lefthanded layup in traffic. Somehow, it was tipped back into the lane.
Iguodala did the rest while in midair, dropping in his first game-winner as a
pro.

could see the reaction of the players. I think they knew that it was no
question, that it was good. I walked over as [the referees] were reviewing it,
and I knew it was good.''

The same Sixers who shot 28.6 percent in the first half shot 52.6 in the
second. Webber, who had two points and three rebounds in the first half, came
back with nine points and five rebounds in the second half. The motivating
factor? Rookie Louis Williams, inactive and watching the ABC telecast in the
locker room because he did not have a sport jacket, told Webber that analyst
Bill Walton had said, "Chris Webber, the game starts at noon.''

Reserve forward Matt Barnes said the Sixers didn't need Walton's critique of
the team's first-half performance to know they had not played well.

"We don't worry about what they have to say,'' Barnes said. "We knew we had to
come out in the second half, and it had to be a different game. We started slow

Cheeks' halftime message was not unlike Walton's.

12 o'clock game. Now, it's a new game. It wasn't just bad for us; it was an
overall game that was not well-played in the first half. We kept plugging away.
Our defense was pretty good in the first half, but our offense... we could not
score.''

The Sixers, though, knew enough to keep playing. They had been up 17 against
Memphis, then had to scramble to win, 89-86.

"We've been there, where we've been up 18, 19, up seven, eight with 2 minutes
to go in a game,'' Cheeks said. "We've been there in a lot of situations where
we know the game can turn around... The Memphis game, it didn't look like we
we're going to win it. It didn't look like we were going to win this game,
either. But I don't think there was anyone that gave up. You could hear Allen
on the bench saying. 'We're still there, we're still there.' I think he gave
a lot of guys a lot of hope.''

Cheeks說：「當我們落後18、19分；當比賽最後2分鐘，我們落後8、9分，我們覺得

Finally, if you think the Sixers played the first half like a team with its
wires crossed, Iguodala mentioned the wrong network in his postgame interview.

最後，如果你認為七六人上半場的表現綁手綁腳，Iguodala會提起他

"That's the network the games were on when I was growing up,'' he said
sheepishly.
