Ferrero's shoulder problem proves too much and he concedes the match.
Federer 4-2 Ferrero
A hugely dramatic moment as Ferrero serves at break-point down. Federer hits a
shot long, but the call is incredibly late and the match is stopped for at
least five minutes because of the furore. After the dust settles Federer
completes the break.
Federer 3-2 Ferrero
Federer holds once more before Ferrero calls for the trainer with a shoulder
complaint. He was apparently feeling it before the match started, but decides
to play on.
Federer 2-2 Ferrero
Ferrero digs deep and manages to hold despite a horribly mistimed forehand.
Federer 2-1 Ferrero
The Spaniard is still unable to find his range under a barrage from Federer,
who holds easily.
Federer 1-1 Ferrero
The disappointed Italian crowd start to give the struggling Ferrero the slow
hand clap, but he manages to hold despite continuing to find the going hard.
Federer 1-0 Ferrero
Ferrero picks Federer off once as he comes to the net, but otherwise it is a
procession for the Swiss, who is playing excellent tennis.
First set
Federer 6-2 Ferrero
Federer seals the first set with a second break. Ferrero saves one breakpoint
with a nice set-up and winning forehand, but Federer forces him into an error
at 30-40 to claim the set.
Federer 5-2 Ferrero
Despite his lead, Federer is struggling to find his first serve and Ferrero
earns a breakpoint. But three first serves, including an ace, follow to get
him out of trouble.
Federer 4-2 Ferrero
The 'Mosquito' stops the rot as he holds serve, but Federer hits a breathtaking
forehand winner as he continues to play with aggression.
Federer 4-1 Ferrero
Ferrero shows his undoubted class with a beautiful drop shot that leaves
Federer stranded, but it is not enough to help him break back.
Federer 3-1 Ferrero
The Swiss makes Ferrero pay for a couple of sloppy errors. Ferrero misses an
overhead and serves up a double fault before hitting a forehand wide to give
up the break.
Federer 2-1 Ferrero
Federer loses the rhythm on his first serve and Ferrero takes advantage to put
pressure on at 15-30. But Federer hits back to hold serve.
Federer 1-1 Ferrero
Ferrero responds, finding perfect range with his groundshots, and also holds
to love.
Federer 1-0 Ferrero
Federer opens the serving and puts down a marker by holding to love.
