　　Moya had a hard time seeing off Vahaly

　　Carlos Moya saved a set point on his way to an unconvincing
　　7-5 6-4 win over Brian Vahaly in Bangkok.

　　Vahaly rallied well and took an early lead against the third-
　　seeded Spaniard.

　　But Moya immediately broke back in the third game and his
　　American opponent hadto fight off three break points at 2-2.

　　With Moya looking flat, a careless volley offered Vahaly a
　　break point to lead 5-3, but the Spaniard held off that threat
　 with a smash.
　
　　Vahaly held a set point at 5-4, but netted a return and Moya
　　then broke to lead 6-5.

　　A break for 1-0 on his fourth break point gave Moya a lead in
　 the second set, and that was enough to settle the match and earn
　 him a place in the quarter-finals.

　　Moya, who has recovered from a fever and sore throat, said:
　　"At the beginning I was struggling a little bit, but then I
　　got my rhythm and felt comfortable. 


　　"I broke him back right after he broke my serve. I started to
　　serve much better and I was using my forehand well."

    In an all-Croatian battle, sixth seed Ivan Ljubicic defeated
    Mario Ancic 6-1 6-4.

    Ljubicic won the last five games of the first set and broke to
    lead 5-4 in the second after Ancic failed to convert four game
    points.

    Frenchman Gregory Carraz lined up a probable clash against top
   seed Juan Carlos Ferrero with a 7-5 6-2 victory over Alexander
   Popp of Germany.

    Eighth-seeded American Taylor Dent took just 52 minutes to crush
    Thierry Ascione of France 6-1 6-2.
