Moya Marches On
Third seed Carlos Moya continued his charge towards Tennis
Masters Cup Houston Thursday by defeating American Brian
Vahaly 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals of the
inaugural Thailand Open in Bangkok. Moya is seventh in
the ATP Champions Race and must finish the regular season
within the top eight to qualify for the elite eight-man
finale. Paradorn Srichaphan delighted Thai fans with a
6-3, 7-6(5) win over Kenneth Carlsen and next meets Ivan
Ljubicic.
Taylor Dent, who reached the fourth round of the US Open
in his last outing, advanced to the quarterfinals with
a 6-1, 6-2 win over Frenchman Thierry Ascione.
Top seed Juan Carlos Ferrero had to work harder than
expected to defeat Alex Bogomolov Jr 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1.
