Thursday September 25, 07:31 PM Ferrero turns out the lights for challenger in Bangkok BANGKOK (AFP) - Spaniard Juan Ferrero groped his way to a laboured 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-1 win to reach the quarter- finals over feisty Russian-born American Alex Bogomolov at the 550,000-dollar Thailand. The Spanish world Number one held a comfortable lead 6-3, 5-4 and was serving for victory when a power surge knocked out filler lights inside the Impact arena. After no repairs were forthcoming, the pair took a warmup hit and then decidedto play on. The decision cost Ferrero a straight-sets win as the underdog now living in Miami levelled with a winning tie-breaker after a break. But Ferrero regained control to close it out in the third. Top Thai Paradorn Srichaphan took sweet revenge for a past Danish disappointment, rallying past a charged-up Kenneth Carlsen 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to roar into the quarter-finals. Paradorn power kept a full-house crowd enthralled as the fourth-seeded local advanced. The Asian ace, 11th in the world and holder of three titles, will Friday fightfor a semi-final spot as he faces Ivan Ljubicic, the sixth seed who ousted teenaged Croatian compatriot Mario Ancic 6-1, 6-4. With fans willing him on, Paradorn produced a command performance to get out of trouble and hand Carlsen a defeat to avenge a loss in the semi-finals in Tokyo a year ago in two tie-break sets. It took more than two hours. The Thai had to battle to salvage a his chances, saving five break points and escaping eight deuce situations in a marathon seventh game of the opening set. After claiming the opener in 49 minutes, Paradorn still faced a struggle in a set where the first three games lasted for nearly 30 minutes. The home player and the blond Viking ended it in a tie- breaker, with Paradorn fighting back from 0-3 as the frustration factor grew for Carlsen, the 2002 Tokyo winner whose bests this season have been a trio of quarter- finals. Paradorn's fans screamed in delight as the Dane dished out a return long to set up match point. A backhand to the net sealed the win for the Asian, whose traditional bows to the crowd were heartfelt in victory. "It's not easy to go out there and play, I have to try hard and so does my opponent," said Paradorn. "It's always tough for an opponent to play a guy from the home country. "I wanted to finish it in two sets, I really didn't want to go three," said a man who is also playing doubles with his brother here. Paradorn was joined as a winner by third-seeded Spaniard Carlos Moya, now overa fever and with too much game for American Brian Vahaly 7-5, 6-4. Former world Number one Moya arrived in Asia suffering physically after a tough Spanish Davis Cup victory weekend at home. But two matches into his campaign for the title at the Impact arena, he is again looking his formidable self. "I had a fever and sore throat when I got here, the only time I've left the hotel was to come for the matches. But I'm feeling much better now," said the winner, who will play Jarkko Nieminen. Finland's only ATP player posted his first quarter-final showing since Long Island in August, ripping up Czech Bohdan Ulihrach 6-4, 6-2. news from: http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/030925/323/e9fx6.html --- 嗯,因為燈壞了,修燈的沒辦法過來,所以決定繼續比賽,所以蚊子第二盤輸掉 將比賽拉向第三盤. -- ┬╮╭─╮╭─╮╭─╮╭ ╮╭─╮╭─╮╭╮╮ │││├─┤│☆││ ├─☆├─┤├┬☆│││ ╰ ╯╰ ╯╰─╯╰─╯╰ ╯╰ ╯╰╰ ╰╰╯ in Ptt -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 211.23.128.130
