Spain 3 0 Croatia R3 - CORRETJA / COSTA (ESP) def. LJUBICIC / ZOVKO (CRO) 6-2 6-3 6-4 雙C兩老輕鬆打...順利晉級四強~~:P ------------------- Corretja and Costa Secure a Decisive 3-0 Lead Over Croatia http://www.daviscup.com/news/matchreport.asp?id=12391 Alex Corretja and Albert Costa made short work of Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic and Lovro Zovko on Saturday to claim a 62 63 64 doubles success and send Spain through to the semifinals of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas with a 3-0 winning lead. Defeats for Ljubicic and Mario Ancic in Friday's opening singles had left Croatia needing victory in the doubles to keep the tie alive going into the final day. Yet, Corretja and Costa never gave them a chance, confirming Spain's reputation as the masters of the clay court game with a display of near-perfect tennis. On a splendid Spring day in Valencia, Zovko gave Spain the first chance in game four of the opening set as Costa, returning with pace and precision, forced two break points. Corretja missed the first of them with a misjudged return but Zovko overhit a volley on the second to hand Spain a 3-1 lead. The next three games went with serve before Zovko found himself in trouble once again. Croatia managed to save two break-points but a simple volley error from Zovko presented Spain with a third, and this time Corretja found a forehand winner for the set in just 34 minutes. The second set went with serve for the first five games, with Zovko holding for the first time in the match in game two and the other three players continuing to steer clear of any trouble. Inevitably, when Spain did make the breakthrough it was against Zovko, who looked increasingly nervous as the match went on. Costa set up a double break-point opportunity with a forehand that evaded both Croatian players as it sailed straight down the middle. Costa piled a backhand return wide on the first but his aim was better on the second, as he evaded Zovko with a forehand out wide. Croatia, fighting back, forced two break-points themselves in the next game but Corretja managed to dig himself out of trouble with two deep first serves. Ljubicic held in the next to leave Costa needing to serve out at 5-2 for the second set. Zovko managed to get a Costa forehand back on the first of two set-points but Corretja reacted with an instinctive flick of his racket to clinch the second set with what looked to be the most casual of volleys. Corretja started the third set in equally classy form to send Spain to the brink of a place in the semifinals. The Catalan produced an exquisite lob to force two break-points against Zovko and then provided a carbon copy of the shot to take the first of them from deep at the back of the court. Costa gave another virtually flawless performance in the next game to make it 2-0 to Spain and provoke a display of deep frustration from Ljubicic, who angrily smashed a forehand towards Corretja after losing a point, causing the Spaniard to duck out of the way. Ljubicic's game looked to be falling apart as he double-faulted twice to go 15-40 down in his next service game. The big-serving Croat recovered to save both of them, however, and keep Croatia in with the faintest of chances with just one break to make up. For all their efforts, the Croatians could make no progress against the Spanish serve. It eventually fell to Corretja to serve out for victory and he did so with a flourish of four unreturnable serves. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 218.162.56.203
