In a change from the team that has taken Spain to the final, Feliciano Lopez replaces Albert Costa. The full line-up is: Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moya, Feliciano Lopez and Alex Corretja, with Jordi Arrese as Captain. In Spain’s previous ties this year, Ferrero and Moya have filled the singles berths, while Costa and Corretja have formed the doubles team. Changes to the team can still be made ahead of the deadline for official nominations on Tuesday 18 November. Lopez has a strong grass court record, having reached the Round of 16 for the last two years at Wimbledon. This year he fell to eventual champion Roger Federer 76(5) 64 64. "We chose Feliciano instead of Costa because Lopez has done very well on grass in the last two years [reaching the Round of 16 at Wimbledon] and he is also playing his best tennis at this time," explained Captain Jordi Arrese. "But everybody in the team knows how important Albert is for us. He really is a teammate. He is always supporting us. He loves Davis Cup and for us it was very hard to explain to him the reasons [for his omission], but even if he is not in the official team, he will be in our hearts in Australia." The Spanish Federation has also constructed a grass court at CT Vall Parc, near Barcelona, for the team to practise on ahead of the Davis Cup Final. The court, which will be maintained until at least next August for Spanish players to practise ahead of Wimbledon, was officially opened on Tuesday with a ceremony involving former Davis Cup players. A doubles match featuring Jordi Arrese, Carlos Costa, Tomas Carbonell and Marcos Gorriz was played, while the Spanish tennis press was invited to hit some balls as well. "This court is great for us, and the whole team wants to congratulate the Spanish Tennis Federation for this big effort," said Arrese. "We know that this was a big challenge, because it is not easy to build a grass court, but the federation has worked really hard. "Australia plays at home, on a grass court where they have better results than our players, and is the favourite in the final. But we have a very strong team, a very committed team in the Davis Cup, and it's not easy to beat a team like us. "Australia is the favourite, but we want this trophy and we are ready to fight for it. I’m sure that this will be a great final for tennsi world. Two strong teams, tow teams that love Davis Cup, and a final is a perfect combination. The fans will enjoy a tie including three number one players in the world [Hewitt, Ferrero and Moya], and personalities like Philippoussis, Corretja, Woodbridge, Arthurs and Lopez." The sports director of Club Tenis Vall Parc, and also Vicepresident, is Lluis Corretja (Alex's father), and the court was built by Garden Tona, the company that has been in charge of grass maintenance at Barcelona's football stadium, the Nou Camp, for years . They have also worked on some golf courses in Spain. The estimated cost of the court is 36, 000 euros for two weeks of construction, and the care of the court in the run-up to the final. It is currently the only grass court in Spain; years ago the Spanish had a grass court at the Real Club de Tenis Lopez Maeso in Madrid, but it does not exist any more, while in the 1920's they had a grass court at San Sebastian in the house of the Spanish Tennis President at the time, Jorge de Satrustegui. Alex Corretja and Feliciando Lopez, and Davis Cup hitting partners Tati Rascon and Ignacio Carrasco, will train on the court until 18th November, when they will leave for Australia. Ferrero and Moya will be not using the court because they will be competing at the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston. In other Davis Cup news, Argentina - whom Spain defeated in this year’s semifinals - has announced that Gustavo Luza will continue as Captain next year. http://www.daviscup.com/news/newsarticle.asp?id=12601 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.162.49.56
