Welcome to TalkAsia. Now there is a chance you haven’t yet
heard of Takeshi Kaneshiro, but there is very little chance,
if you care anything at all about Asian culture or film in
general, that you’re going to remain ignorant of him for
very long. He’s a pop star, he’s an actor of considerable
versatility, and now he’s a model. After hit TV shows and
29 films, Time magazine has described him as a chameleon,
the Johnny Depp, no less, of the Asian film industry. He was
an action hero in the ravishing movie The House of Flying
Daggers. But his latest film, consistent with his professional
restlessness, is a big budget musical--Perhaps, Love.

又成了模特兒。在拍過電視劇和二十九部電影後，《時代》雜誌將他描
述為一隻變色龍，稱他是亞洲電影業的強尼戴普毫不為過。他是《十面
埋伏》這部絕美電影中的武打英雄。但他最新的一部電影作品，則是一
部大成本音樂劇《如果．愛》。這延續了他在專業上求新求變的一貫作
風。

HUGH RIMINTON, TALKASIA
You’ve played successfully romantic comedy, you’ve played
young men who are uncertain of themselves, but you’ve also
played in House of Flying Daggers, a hero, a fighting hero,
and now, in a musical. What is it that is common to what you
bring to that work?

你的愛情喜劇演得很成功，你也飾演過迷惘的年輕人，但你也在《十面
埋伏》中演過一個武打英雄，現在又演出音樂劇。你能有如此多面表現
的共通之處是什麼？
TAKESHI KANESHIRO
For me, I would just try the best I could do, and there are
many things that I can’t do, I think, like martial arts, the
great action. Because we didn’t learn the martial arts. What
we can do is act, we can pretend, pretend to be the guy. But
the step [stuff] you do, we can do, is there is [a] limit. Or
if you give me ten years, maybe that will be different. But
what you could do is...I think acting is the only thing you
can do. And, I mean, the directors are great, Zhang Yimou or
Peter Chan. I think, without them, you couldn’t really finish
the job, or really pretend to be the guy in the role. So I
think that they are really important, great directors.

對我來說，我只是盡力做到最好。其實有很多事是我做不到的，像武術
這類大動作的東西。因為我們演員沒學過武術，能做的就是演出，可以
假裝自己是那個人。但是我們能做到的還是有限。如果你給我十年時間
，情況可能會不一樣。但是能做的是……我想表演是演員唯一能做的事
。導演很了不起，像張藝謀或陳可辛。我想沒有他們，演員就無法完成
這份工作，或真正去融入那個角色。所以我認為好的導演真的很重要。
HUGH RIMINTON, TALKASIA
Would you agree that there are great directors working in Asia,
that some of the most beautiful films [are] being made in all
sorts of genres in Asia, and you’ve been lucky enough to work
with the best?

你是否同意亞洲有好的導演，亞洲出產了各類型影片中一些最唯美的作
品，而你有幸能和其中的佼佼者合作？
TAKESHI KANESHIRO
Yes, I think I am lucky from [the] very beginning!
金城武
對，我想我從一開始就很幸運。
HUGH RIMINTON, TALKASIA
Because you worked with Wong Kar-wai when you were just starting
out. What was that, as an experience, like?

因為你一開始就和王家衛合作。那種經驗如何？
TAKESHI KANESHIRO
It was something new, very fresh, and he gave lots of space to
let everyone to try to do something by themselves, because there
was no script. It was very, very new for me, and I think that’s
the reason that I feel like, woah! acting’s so interesting.
Acting, making movies is so interesting because we could do a
shot, maybe of anger or crying, in 20 or 30 times, but each time
was different, because we didn’t follow any script.
金城武
那是種很新鮮的體驗。他給大家很大的自我發揮空間，因為根本沒有劇
本。這對我來說很新奇，也正因為如此，我感覺表演竟是如此有趣。表
演，拍電影非常有趣，因為我們可以拍一個鏡頭，也許是生氣或是哭泣
，多達二、三十次，但每一次都不一樣，因為根本沒有劇本讓我們照著
演。
HUGH RIMINTON, TALKASIA
As an actor yourself, when you get to the stage where you’re
looking back on your career, how would you define success?

做為一個演員，當你到了一個回顧自己事業的階段時，你會如何對成功
下定義呢？
TAKESHI KANESHIRO
Myself, I think I should act more. Especially for these years
that…well Peter told me that, why are you doing just one movie
per year? And I said, well I didn’t make this happen, it’s only
because there wasn’t, you know, really good stories that I feel
like I wanted to do. But I feel like yeah, maybe I should play
more and more.
金城武
就我自己而言，我想我應該會作更多的演出，尤其是這些年來，陳可辛
告訴我，你為什麼一年只拍一部片呢？我說，這不是由我作主，因為也
沒有什麼讓我想要演的好劇本。但我覺得也許我應該再多演一些吧。
HUGH RIMINTON, TALKASIA
Would success be an Oscar, an Academy Award?

贏得一座奧斯卡獎算是成功嗎？
TAKESHI KANESHIRO
Well, I hope so. But it’s already a great honor that they can
mention us, our movies. It’s great enough. But, yeah, sure, if
we could get something optional, that would be extra, [that]
would be great!
金城武
希望如此。但他們能提到我們的電影就已經是莫大榮耀了，夠棒了。當
然，如果我們能有所選擇，那會更棒。
HUGH RIMINTON, TALKASIA
Ok. Well, however you define it, I’m sure you’ll get it. Thanks
