Supermarkets take off in the 1950's, and then many small stores disappeared.
First, supermarkets have lower expenditures because they buy goods in huge
volumes. Second, They have greater variety of products than small stores.
However, they have been challenged by hypermarkets because hypermarkets
have even greater economy of scale.

In the listening passage, the professor describes the process of stars. The
professor takes our Sun as an example. Our sun is a yellow dwarf now. It has
huge gravity that keeps the Sun flying apart or blowing up. The explosions of
the sun keeps its gases from collapsing. After a long time, the sun will become
a red giant, getting hotter and growing in size. At this point, there might not
be any life on earth due to high temperatures. Once the sun used up its fuel,
it will become a black drarf. The earth will be cold, dark and lifeless.

radio, and televisions. Movies and radio didn't disappear when television
became popular. When people are not able to give their full attention to
television, they still listen to music and news on the radio. People still go
to the movies because they enjoying watching films as part of an audience
rather than watching alone. Besides, they like seeing the action on a big
screen and listening to a great sound system in movie theaters.

In the listening passage, the professor discusses Great Dying. The main point
the professor makes about causes of Great Dying is that there are two reasons
leading to the extinction of most species on Earth at that time. Scientists
think that there were a huge meteor hitting the earth, and a huge volcano
eruption. By the dust created by the meteor and the arh thrown up from the
volcano, the earth was cut off from sunlight. Plants died and no oxygen was
being created. Dropping of oxygen level caused the deaths of these species.
