那是假設語氣的省略法
原句:her closest advisor will take ovr as president should she resign early.
還原為：Her closest advisor will take ovr as president, if she should resign
early.
should在假設語氣中翻成萬一，或者是未來生可能性比較小的可能
其他的假設語氣省略法還有 Had she resigned early -> If she had resigned early,
以及 Were she ..., -> if she were....,
這種省略法在經濟學人上面我還滿常看到的
