忠烈祠供奉著在抗日戰爭及國共戰爭中犧牲的三十三萬將士官兵在此安息。祠內的烈士牌
位及四面牆上與建國相關的照片，充分展現出烈士們犧牲小我完成大我的精神，而「成仁
」、「取義」就是大門牌樓左右兩側的橫題。忠烈祠的建築風格華麗宏偉，是模仿北京故
宮太和殿的宮殿式建築，氣派不凡。每年春秋兩季，國家元首必率文武百官員前來致祭，
光輝十月是歸國華僑的必到之處；而每小時的衛兵交接儀式更是享譽國際，觀光客的景點
之一。曾經接受嚴格訓練的儀隊弟兄們，似雕像般地嚴肅，整齊劃一的動作腳步，令人為
之屏息，深怕錯過任何一個細節，遊客如織地聚集在每個整點時刻，必有可觀之處。

The Martys' Shrine is dedicated to the 330,000 solders who sacrificed their
lives during the war against Japanese occupation and in the fight against the
Chinese Communist Party.Inside the shrine and alone the four walls of the
building can be found an array of photographs from the early days of the
Repulic of China that clearly convery the sense of the sacrifice that these
soldiers made for their country. To further commemorate that spirit, plaques
bearing the words"cheng-jen"(completing benevolence)and"chu-yih"(to die for
the cause of justice and righteousness), phrases taken from an ancient
Confuction saying on the improtance of maintaining one's principles even if
it means martyrdon, have been placed on either side of the front door to the
shrine. The building itself is a magnificent and splendid structure that is
basedon the design of the Taiho hall in the former imperial places in
Beijing. Each year during the spring and fall, Taiwan's leaders bring all
important government officials to the shrine to make a dedication to the
fallen solders. Likewise, the Martyrs' Shrine is a necessary stopover for
overseas Chinese returning to Taiwan for the National Day celebrations on
Oct.10 Another big tourist attraction at the shrine is the world- renowned
changing of the guard that takes place every hour. At this time. you can see
specially trained Honor Guard complete an elaborate ceremony that takes about
15 minutes. The changing of the guard has gained quite a reputation both
locally and around the world and there is alomst always in anticipation to
take in the show.
