GIS Map Interface to Online Data A new and improved Geographic Information System (GIS) map service interface for the NOAA National Data Center Climate Data Online (CDO) system is now online. The new version replaces a previous GIS interface which went online last year. It's more user-friendly with some additional features, and provides a direct interface to all 7 CDO datasets. Additional features, layers, datasets , and options will continue to be added to the system over the next year. The single DVD contains individual data files for each station, along with all required metadata, documentation, etc. This comprises approximately 15 gigabytes of data (compressed onto one DVD) for over 11,000 stations worldwide, with hourly and synoptic weather data. Temperature, winds, pressure, precipitation, snow depth, visibility, cloud cover, and other elements are typically available. Changnon: This document is the first ever climate atlas concerning ice storms and freezing rain occurrences across the United States. Insured property losses from ice storm catastrophes in the United States average $326 million (in 2000 dollars) annually. This atlas should be of interest to anyone interested in the weather including atmospheric scientists and those who design weather-sensitive structures. NOAA's Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) captured these powerful storms near peak intensity, which are all presented in this colorful poster. The poster dimension is approximately 36"x 27". The URL is: http://ols.nndc.noaa.gov/plolstore/plsql/olstore.prodspecific?prodnum=C00589-POS-A0001
