他曾經是在加拿大排名17的青少年(U14)網球選手
找到一篇爆笑的訪問:
Q: Growing up, did you ever imagine you'd get to be intimate with so many
babes?
A: I certainly envisioned myself kissing beautiful women--but not onscreen.
Actually, as a kid I wanted to be a tennis player, but I wasn't good enough,
so I became an actor. Since then, I've just been lip-locking with gorgeous
babes. So, let that be a lesson to all you little tennis players out there.

Matthew Perry is in love. No, not with Jennifer Capriati; the two insist
they're just friends. "I've become obsessed with tennis at the age of
thirty-three, which is kind of funny because I took fifteen years away
from the game without even picking up a racquet," Perry says. Now you
can't get him away from the court. He plays every day, working his way
back to the form that earned him a junior ranking in his native Canada.
"I'm kind of in that weird area as a tennis player where I'm not so bad
that it's like, 'Look at that ridiculous actor running around, isn't he
funny?'" Now in his final season of Friends and the star of the new
romantic comedy film Serving Sara, Perry does his hitting in the Beverly
Hills area.
FAMILY TIES:
"My grandfather, Langford, got me out on a court when I was four years
old, and I pretty much didn't want to do anything else."
GETTING GOOFY:
"I was ranked number seventeen in singles for boys under fourteen and
my doubles team was ranked third. It was kind of depressing because we
went all the way to the Canada Nationals, which were sponsored by Disney,
so my bronze medal [in doubles] has a huge picture of Goofy on it."
REALITY BITES:
"As a kid I wanted to be a pro tennis player. But I moved to Los Angeles
when I was fifteen and I just flat out wasn't good enough. The guys were
in a different league down there."
ROLE MODEL:
"Jimmy Connors was my favorite player because he was the Johnny Hustle
of tennis. You never knew when he was out of a match. I even imitated his
grunt when I was eleven, until my parents told me not to."
ON JENNIFER:
"I've been fortunate enough to hang out with her. She's really cool and
smart. She reminds me of when I was a kid, when I would be down 6-2, 5-1,
and 40-15 and I knew I would win."
WIMBLEDON OR OSCAR:
"Maybe I'll be lucky enough to win an Oscar for playing a guy that wins
Wimbledon."
ACTING OUT:
"I'm very excitable. When things are going well, I'm in a terrific mood.
If I'm really screwing up, I throw the occasional racquet. But now that
I've settled down in my life and taken over a few of my personal demons,
I've learned to throw the racquet behind me."
BACK IN THE GAME:
"I'm very happy. Anybody who has read the papers has known that I've gone
through some tough times. I've worked through them and tennis has been a
major part of that. There's nothing I would change. Maybe having a nice
girlfriend to go play tennis with and go to the movies with afterward. If
you know anybody let me know."
