Hewitt Honored at Australia Day Awards
Wolrd No.1 Named Young Australian of the Year
Lleyton Hewitt has been named Young Australian of the Year. The World No.1
was presented with the award by Australian Prime Minister John Howard in
Melbourne on Australia Day, January 26.
"I love Australia and our way of life," Hewitt, 21, said. "I'm very proud
to be named the Young Australian of the Year. It's something that you
always dream to become and to be a role model to all the young Australians.
It's an incredible feeling."
Hewitt was recognized for his outstanding performances in 2002 when he won
the Wimbledon singles title, the Tennis Masters Cup, and finished as the
year-end No.1 for the second consecutive year.
Pat Rafter was last year named Australian of the Year.
