Roddick's Charity Benefit Breaks Record
The event raised more than $100,000, doubling the proceeds from last year's
event.
More than $100,000 was raised at the second annual Andy Roddick/SEK
Preparatory School Charity Tennis Extravaganza that was held on December
21-22. Roddick, America's newest tennis sensation, hosted the holiday weekend.
Doubling the proceeds from last year's inaugural event, Chairman Blanche
Roddick was thankful for the numerous contributions that have enabled the
charity to grow at record speed. This year, Roddick's celebrity friends
included former No. 1 player Jim Courier as well as Sebastien Grosjean,
Chris Evert and Brenda Schultz. Thanks to their efforts, more than 2,000
fans enjoyed the festivities and made this event a success.
Bobby Curtis, representing USA Florida Tennis, was a guest speaker at the
dinner dance that was held on Saturday evening. Then on Sunday, Paul Dee,
the athletic director for the No.1-ranked Miami Hurricanes, made a personal
appearance at the exhibition to assist in auctioning a priceless Fiesta Bowl
package as well as various memorabilia.
All donations will directly assist the Margaux's Miracle Foundation for the
benefit of pediatric cancer patients, student aid for SEK Preparatory School,
and the Back to Basics Charity for children in need.
