Reached the semifinals in Estoril.
1995
Reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros ousting two-time champion Jim
Courier along the way before falling to eventual champion Muster.
Won first ATP title in Kitzbuehel defeating Muster to break his streak of 24
clay-court finals.
1996
Won three out of five finals -- Gstaad, San Marino and Bournemouth.
Reached his first TMS final in Monte Carlo.
1997
Won titles in Barcelona and Marbella.
Reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
1998
Won his first Tennis Masters Series title in Hamburg and reached the final at
Rome. Also, won the title at Kitzbuehel and reached the final in Bournemouth.

Took three titles: Estoril, Gstaad and defended Kitzbuehel and finished the
year as the No. 1 Spanish player.
2000
For the first time in five years, ended the season without winning a title
but still finished the year in the Top 30.
Had a 3-2 Davis Cup record in singles to lead his country to it's first title.
In doubles, won the bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics with Alex Corretja.
2001
Finished the year outside of the top 30 and only reached one final.
Lost in the first round of the French Open to Julien Boutter in five sets,
making his earliest exit since 1994.

2002
At the French Open, eliminated both 2001 finalists -- three-time champion
Gustavo Kuerten and best friend Alex Corretja -- before advancing to the final
where he defeated Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-1, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
On June 14, the week after winning the Roland Garros title, married the
mother of his twin girls, Cristina Ventura, with semifinal opponent Alex
Corretja serving as his best man.
