Hewitt questions Rusedski's 'weird' withdrawal

PERTH, Australia (Reuters) - World number one Lleyton Hewitt has described
Greg Rusedski's withdrawal from the Davis Cup tie against Australia in
February because of a foot injury as "very weird."

"I struggle to see how a guy can pull out and say he is injured and he is
playing in Doha on Monday," Hewitt told reporters on Friday.

Rusedski, 29, is set to return to tournament play after foot surgery
with the Qatar Open in Doha starting on December 30 and the Australian
Open from January 13.

However, he has made himself unavailable for the Davis Cup first round
tie against Australia in Sydney from February 7 to 9, fearing his foot
will not last out on the clay surface.

But Hewitt said: "It is very weird and I am sure the British people are
a little shocked with it all and I am sure the team is very disappointed.

"Potentially it could be a fantastic week of tennis if we have myself
and Mark Philippoussis playing against Rusedski and (Tim) Henman.

"When the draw (for the first round) came out, I thought it was the
toughest draw you could get."

Rusedski has said he made the decision because he did not want to
unsettle the team with a last-minute withdrawal.
