Sanchez Vicario says goodbye
The Barcelona Bumblebee will sting no more. Four-time Grand Slam champ
Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario said she thinks the time has come "to abandon
tennis" at age 30. She ascended to No. 1 in singles and doubles in 1995
following the 1994 French and U.S. Open titles. She set many Fed Cup
records despite a disappointing 6-0, 6-2 loss to Janette Husarova in
her final match. She was heckled by a lone fan during that match and
began crying, but the Spanish crowd responded by giving her a warm
ovation.
