The Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament suffered major blows on the last day that playe
rs could enter. Six players on the main draw entry list withdrew, including Ai
Sugiyama and former top four player Jelena Dokic.
Anne Worcester, the Pilot Pen's tournament director, had extended a wildcard to
former world number one Venus Williams. The wildcard was declined by Williams,
who will now be heading to Flushing Meadows to prepare for the US Open.
The highest ranked player to receive a wildcard was American Lisa Raymond, a qu
arterfinalist at this year's Australian Open.
