Ferreira slams 'disgraceful' Madrid crowd

MADRID, Oct 15 (Reuters) - South Africa's Wayne Ferreira branded the Madrid Masters crowd a disgrace for their behaviour during his defeat by local favourite Juan Carlos Ferrero on Wednesday.
Ferreira missed two match points while serving at 5-3 in the final set against top seed Ferrero, who went on to win 6-3 2-6 7-6.
The crowd cheered every mistake from Ferreira's racket, booed each time he got the ball in and seemed intent on disrupting his serve at crucial moments in the third set.
"I think people should be embarrassed," the 32-year-old Ferreira said after his second-round defeat. "It's a disgrace -- classless behaviour. They should be embarrassed."
Ferreira said he had experienced similar situations in the Davis Cup but could otherwise not recall anything like it.
"I've never seen this bad behaviour anywhere," Ferreira said. "I've been on the Tour 15 years, played in pretty much every country in the world and never seen anything as disgraceful as this.
"I feel pretty bad that it had to happen. Tennis is a good sport so it's disappointing to have something like this at the end of a good career."
Spanish fans were criticised for similar behaviour by Australia when Spain won the Davis Cup in Barcelona in 2000.
