But then from then on, he just played really good tennis. In the first set tie-break, I played pretty well up to 4-3. A couple of points I thought I had him, and he came up with shots that were too good." Massu: "I played well, but it's not every day you can do it this way. Everything went well. It would be incredible to be able to play at this level all the time. Sometimes I've played at this level, but not consistently like today. Sometimes I've been at this level one set, then my game has dropped. But obviously, clearly, this was one of the best matches of my life. I played well. I'm happy." Lopez, on the importance of this win: "If you take into account we're in the Tennis Masters Madrid, this is the best one. Without mentioning Philippoussis' loss the other day. But this means quarterfinals, I defeated Moya. I think this is the most important of my career." Moya: "It's not the best thing to lose a match like this. I had chances in the third set that I didn't take advantage of. At this level, if you don't take advantage of opportunities, you get what happened today. A victory would have brought me closer to the Masters. But still my chances are there. The loss hurts, especially because I'm in Spain." Ferrero: "The match was complicated, but then we were even. In the second set, I think I made a couple errors, two or three points in a row. Maybe it was too much. But it was a good match, especially the tie-breaks. I'm motivated because I'm in Spain. You always learn from a match you win." Srichaphan: "I've been hitting the ball really well since the hardcourt seaon and I've got a lot of confidence now." On his next match: "It's going to be fun, I'll be playing against the home crowd too. I expect a tough match and hope to show the crowd a good game." Federer: "I still don't feel as good as in Vienna. I just think it takes some time. I'm still holding back on a few shots, even on the serve a little bit. But I think for the next match and hopefully the following match, you know, I'll feel much better." Chela: "I was feeling good but I was losing. He had match point. He had the choice of defeating me. After that, I fought for all the points and I had the chance to turn it around." QUARTERFINAL MATCHES With Andy Roddick faltering in the third round, the Tennis Masters Madrid now presents an invaluable opportunity for Juan Carlos Ferrero and Roger Federer to gain ground on their American rival who currently leads the ATP Champions Race. Federer will face home favorite Feliciano Lopez as he bids to continue his seven-match winning streak on his way to a seventh title of the year. Juan Carlos Ferrero faces a crunch match against Thai Paradorn Srichaphan. Ferrero needs a win to hold on to his No. 1 Entry Ranking while Srichaphan will be keen to continue his late charge for one of the two Houston spots still up for grabs. Sebastian Grosjean, who is also in the hunt for a Houston berth, will look to further his challenge when he takes on No. 12 seed Younes El Aynaoui. Grosjean was a semifinalist here last year (l. to Agassi) and has yet to drop a set on his way to the quarterfinals. Both these two are still in search of their first title of 2003. In a battle of two South Americans that share the same coach (Gabriel Markus), Nicolas Massu of Chile will face Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela. The Chilean will be looking to avenge the defeat he suffered at the hands of Chela as recently as last week in the first round of Vienna -- Loving oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance. ~ Oscar Wilde 《An Ideal Husband》 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.64.168.77
