NEW YORK (AP) -- Martina Navratilova will play for the United States in next month's Fed Cup semifinals, The Associated Press learned Sunday.

Navratilova, who turns 47 Saturday, will be the oldest player ever to participate in the competition.

Her selection for the four-person roster will be announced Monday by U.S. Fed Cup captain Billie Jean King, according to a U.S. Tennis Association source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The rest of the roster will be Meghann Shaughnessy, Lisa Raymond and Alexandra Stevenson, the source said.

The United States will play Belgium (which won't have No. 1 Kim Clijsters or No. 2 Justine Henin-Hardenne), and Russia faces France in the semifinals Nov. 19-20 at Moscow. The final is Nov. 22-23, also at Moscow.

Navratilova is expected to play doubles, possibly teaming with Raymond, who's ranked fifth in the world in doubles. As of Sunday, Shaughnessy was ranked 19th by the WTA Tour in singles, Raymond 29th, and Stevenson 30th.

It's about a third-string group.

Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Lindsay Davenport and Jennifer Capriati are all ranked in the top six but are unavailable either because of injuries or conflicts with King -- or both.

Navratilova hasn't played in the Fed Cup since 1995 -- and she's played only one match since 1989.

But she owns a 37-0 Fed Cup record. There are other players who are unbeaten but haven't played as many matches as Navratilova. And Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, for example, has more victories, 72, but the Spaniard also has lost 28 times.

Navratilova is among the greatest tennis players in history, with a total of 58 Grand Slam titles: 18 in singles, 31 in doubles, and nine in mixed doubles.

And she still can play doubles at the highest levels.

She has won two major mixed doubles titles this year, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon. She and Svetlana Kuznetsova were the runners-up in the U.S. Open women's doubles competition last month.

Navratilova and Cara Black lost to Raymond and Rennae Stubbs 6-2, 6-4 Sunday in the doubles final at the Porsche Grand Prix in Filderstadt, Germany.
