Ljubicic unhappy at Swiss crowd reaction

BASEL, Switzerland, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Croatian Ivan Ljubicic, who downed Roger Federer on Thursday, said he was disappointed with the crowd's reaction during his Swiss Indoors quarter-final win over Nicolas Lapentti on Friday.
Ljubicic beat home favourite and second seed Federer on Thursday and the 24-year-old was unhappy with the whistling St Jakobshalle crowd during Friday's 2-6 6-2 6-3 win.
"I'm sad because people were whistling at me today," said big-serving Ljubicic. "It is not a nice feeling to be whistled at like that after playing your best tennis.
"Roger is a good friend of mine but I am only doing my job. I've put out the crowd favourite, now the women's favourite (Lapentti) so maybe no one will come tomorrow," he said.
"We don't have any tournaments in Croatia -- apart from one which I am not playing in -- so I am always the underdog. I have got used to it but it makes me sad."
Ljubicic faced a similar situation in Bangkok in September when he beat Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan in the quarter-finals. World number one Juan Carlos Ferrero then defeated him in the semi-finals.
That was one of three semi-final appearances this season -- the others came in Milan and Dubai.
Ljubicic is hoping to turn his fourth semi-final of the campaign in Basel into a place in the final -- something he has achieved only once in his career when he won in Lyon in 2001.
"I hope to make the final -- it will be only the second time in my career," said Ljubicic, who plays Argentine third-seed Guillermo Coria in Saturday's semi-final.
"I am playing well here and I am looking to make the jump into the top-10 or the top-15 next year. I'm having 10 weeks off to train after Basel and I want to improve again next year."
